Reception Is Not Good.

It barely picks up any of the emergency channels. The ER310 literally sitting on top of it picks up multiple channels. The WR120 even picked up channels where this one is located but it died. Very disappointed. I should have just gotten another WR120.

Good The Bright Light Display Is A Deal Breaker

I've had this almost 2 months, but just setup a couple weeks ago. I had a very old Midland that I replaced, and it receives much better in the same area, I am very rural. I've only had one alert, but we've had a lot in surrounding counties but not here, so that is a huge improvement, which is why I bought, because the old one went off so much you couldn't use it. My biggest complaint is the most important place to use it is in bedroom, and light is very detrimental to good sleep, the switch is already there for low/high, but it is way too bright on low. I would not buy this brand or model again for this reason, with that button already there, there is no reason it couldn't have an off.

Horrible Design

It will be replaced soon. The display backlight is super bright, even on the dimmest setting. Not being able to turn the backlight off (like the wr300) is a huge oversight and makes this radio pretty much worthless in a bedroom. Extremely disappointed by the lazy, sloppy engineering.

Staying Safe With The Wr400

After many years we replaced our weather alert radio. This radio allows us to program the areas we need to know about and will not wake us for alerts we don't need to be concerned about. I like that I can program in local radio stations and has an alarm clock also.

Spotty Performance

Weather channel reception is weak. I have several ham radios and a couple of scanners that receive the NOAA channels much stronger in the same location. Alert function seems to work OK. Radio occasionally loses time setting and NOAA channel setting, while plugged in with fresh alkaline batteries installed. Must re-program when this happens

Amazing Radio! Some Suggestions Though

I previously had bought one of these radios, but ended up having to get it replaced after it broke. The new version (400DSP) is a great upgrade from the previous model as it now comes with adjustable alert volume like the 120DSP. Few suggestions though for the development team: 1. A dimmer backlight would be great. It makes a good night light (if you want that), but still a little too bright compared to older radios like the WR300 and even newer ones like the 120DSP. 2. Ability to review old/past alerts. Not really too important, but would be nice to have like said older models 3. Show expiration time. As this is an upgrade from the WR300, the ability to view the time a warning/watch/advisory will expire (like the 300) would be very useful. Other than those suggestions this radio is amazing and has been working great.

Real Nice Unit

Our WR100 stopped receiving broadcasts so we purchased the Midland WR400 online. So far, we are receiving the weather broadcast for our area clear and crisp from the closest transmitter. There is one problem we encountered that wasn't stated in the owner's manual, and that is the fact that the WR400 expects to receive a test alert from NOAA every ten days. If it doesn't receive the test alert within the ten days, it displays "Bad Reception" and the warning, watch, and advisory lights blink. I eventually found out how to reset the unit, on a Midland website, by removing one battery and unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet. Once the actions are reversed, the clock will have to be reset.

Reseting The Wr 400 Weather Radio

I purchase this radio 1 week ago and found the radio had lot of nice features.But the setup instruction are vary confusing I found how to reset the radio from a You Tube post unlike the rest on my other WR 120 on which you told owner how to do it. a Also why 2 different setup instruction One is on the battery door and the other in the owners manual.? a Also the Antenna input if found has to match the telescope on the unit if not you get a loss of Db on the signal The owners manual is a little vague on setup of functions and could use some clairfacation 73's

My Little Town Depends On This Weather Radio W400

I had the previous model of this radio I purchased in 1999. Just now, 25 years later, have I needed to replace it. As mayor of a small town, I monitored severe weather and sounded the outdoor siren. I lowered my rating to 4 due to the fact I use the external alert jack. On my new W400 it seems the jack is a closed switch and is never off. Not 1 mention of this feature ANYWHERE. Maybe the new W400 has a NC switch, I can't seem to find out ANYWHERE.

Excellent Midland Wr400 Radio 📻

Easy to set up, excellent MW, FM and NOOA Weather Band reception but it eats 4 AA batteries 🔋 in less than 24 hours. All my other Midland Radio ER-50, ER-210, ER-10 And other have rechargeable batteries. They should have that feature with the ER-400. So I decided to plug it in all the time with no batteries. Problem solved but it is annoying 😑
