Good But Not Great
Boots are comfortable from the start. It doesn't take too long to break them in, but there are a couple of issues compared to the previous Alpha 2. Lockdown in the heel are is a mild problem. The opening is a bit too large and the lacing doesn't help. They should've kept Zeroglide in the heel to avoid this issue. I felt as if the boots were going to come off from the slipping sensation in the heel -- even with grip socks, which I didn't need with Alpha 2. Or, without Zeroglide, they could've used an extra hole further up for extra lockdown. I find it unnecessary to have Zeroglide up front. In fact, it makes it rough in the top of the toe area. I actually got a blister on the top of my middle toe (left foot). The top of my toes feel the rough Zeroglide surface from rubbing against it. Maybe that issue will go away with more break-in time. I've heard that the Japan version has a taller toe area, which I'm sure helps with this issue. Maybe the lasting process with the MIJ version makes the shoes more roomy up front and the Elite will get there eventually. Aside from those issues, the material feels much more pliable than Alpha 2, so they're more comfortable when you bend your foot and move around in general. I also prefer the traditional tongue, but not going to criticize the design change. Who knows, Mizuno may decide to do the same as the Morelia line and give us Alpha and Alpha Beta. The soleplate is also slightly updated in the positioning of the rear studs. It kinda feels a little more stable in the back. Not a huge deal, though.
