Disappointing Brakes & Shifting. Would Be A Good Value Otherwise.

This bike would benefit from upgrades and modifications. The worst is brakes have insufficient power to lock the wheels into a skid, which is woefully inadequate. I'm not yet sure if this can be fixed with better pads, but it might require larger discs, and better calipers which would basically be a whole new brake system. Fortunately, good quality brake systems can be had for well under $100. Then there's the gears. The shifters work, but I find the style to be obnoxious. The front deraileur, and maybe the front sprocket (+ crank as a permanent assembly) are very low quality. Gone are the days of affordable bikes using even the lowest Shimano parts. The front deraileur + gears are imprecise and slow. They do work but are prone to send the chain off the sprocket entirely, even when the travel limits are properly adjusted. Thus, upgrades here would be beneficial. The rear deraileur is Shimano and works decent. The handlebar is unnecessarily wide. I think I measured 28". 24" ought to be plenty. Fortunately, that's easy to fix if you're handy, as the bar can be cut down. The rest is you get what you see. Mongoose has usually been a good brand for value but the brake and shifting components are embarrassing choices for a bike at this price. Beware of Dicks' assembly & adjustment errors. Its crude at best which will exasperate the problems I mentioned above. Assume for my review that I corrected all the errors prior.

Great Bike, Confusing Instructions

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The instructions were a bit tough to follow, the chain and gear shifting is a bit noisy, but it’s a super durable bike that is comfy to ride. It fits me at 5’8” and is versatile for street or dirt. I recommend getting all the tools you need first together before starting to put it together!

Poor Assembly

I purchased a mountain bike at Fair Oaks Mall, and unfortunately, my experience has been pretty disappointing. From day one, the brakes squeaked constantly. I initially assumed they just needed time to break in, but after several months of regular use, the issue never went away. Eventually, I decided to replace the brake pads myself. To my surprise, the original pads were already worn down significantly, despite the bike being less than a year old. It honestly felt like someone just grabbed whatever brake pads were available and used those. Worse yet, I discovered that the rotor bolts were loose, which is a serious safety issue. It seemed like no thread locker was applied. Overall, I expected better quality control and attention to detail, especially when it comes to assembling a bike that’s meant to handle rugged terrain. I know I'm not buying an expensive bike but this is low even for bare minimum.

So Much Fun

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been riding this mountain bike for a month now, and I couldn’t be happier with it. The lightweight aluminum frame feels solid yet agile on the trails, and the 29" wheels roll over roots and rocks with ease. The front suspension absorbs bumps really well, and the disc brakes give me great control, even on steep descents. Gear shifts are smooth, and it handles both off-road and paved paths confidently. Overall, it’s been a reliable and fun ride.
