My wife really likes the retro look of the New Balance 550s — they’ve got that clean, throwback vibe that goes with just about anything. The olive color pops in person, and they’re built solid with great materials. The fit runs slightly snug at first, but after a couple wears they loosened up nicely. The cushioning is firm but supportive, perfect for all-day wear. If you’re looking for a shoe that blends style and stability, this is a great pick.

So narrow and uncomfortable around the toe box, this is my second pair of 550s and I can’t believe the difference from the ones I bought previously. They hurt my toes within minutes of wearing them. I’d return them if I could but I’ve taken them on holiday with me, assuming they’d be comfortable from first wear like my previous pair, so I’ve been forced to wear them.
