I love these sneakers for light to moderate hikes. There is a ton of cushion and great traction with the vibrum soles. The shoe hugs your foot nicely.

My 5th pair of Hierros and love them! Last version were a little more comfortable, but these are great nonetheless.

Light weight, good grip I have been buying these shoes for the past 2 years and they are perfect

The shoes look great and the initial fit feels fine, but after wearing them for extended periods, I experienced significant discomfort — pain in the toe area and heel rubbing that caused soreness. Not suitable for all-day wear. Expected better comfort and quality from New Balance.

The Fresh Foam X Hierro v9 is by far one of the most disappointing trail shoes I have ever used. Calling this a “trail” shoe is honestly misleading. These are not built for real trails — they are glorified park jogging shoes with trail branding slapped onto them. I took them out on wet trails and almost twisted my ankle because the shoe is unbelievably unstable. The platform feels soft, sloppy, and completely insecure on uneven terrain. There is zero confidence when cornering, descending, or stepping on rocks and roots. It genuinely felt unsafe. At first, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt because my feet were soaked within 15 minutes, so I thought maybe the wet conditions were exaggerating the problem. But then I tested them again on the exact same trail in dry conditions and the result was just as bad. Still unstable, still awkward, still feeling like the shoe wanted to roll under my foot at every uneven step. The fit and geometry make it obvious these were designed for smooth park paths, not actual technical trails. Anyone doing serious trail running will immediately notice how poor the lateral stability is. What makes this even more frustrating is that I have a large foot and have historically had great experiences with New Balance shoes. I expected much better from them. Instead, this model feels like a complete design failure. Soft cushioning cannot compensate for terrible stability and lack of trail capability. This shoe is an absolute flop and honestly one of the worst “trail” shoes I’ve worn in years.
Ran 60km ultra in these bad boys, and nothing but good things to say! Felt strong, comfortable and good grip at all times

+1'200 Km. In all conditions (heat, mud, rain, gravels, roads, mountains etc) No blisters. No hot spot. Still not destroyed. Besides the wear of the grip (sole) they could last for another equivalent distance ! CAMINO FRANCES all the way to Fisterra and more. Up to 46km per day. After finding the right size and trained with them, with the proper socks I can only highly recommend these shoes ! Getting the same pair for daily walks and future long hikes. Great job from NB !

Comfortable and lightweight. That was my expectation.

I wanted to live this show because it fit so well out of the box, but once I started to rub in it, it was terrible. There is zero ground feel. You sit up on the sole of the shoe much like a platform. Not for any technical trails what so ever

These have been pretty comfortable if not a little tight. I had hoped they would loosed up just a little but in the three weeks it doesn't seem like they have. This is compared to wide Altras and wide Topos. (These NB's are also wide.)
I’m a 54-year-old PE teacher who’s on my feet all day and still playing AFL Masters, so comfort and durability matter. The New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro v9 has been outstanding — cushioned enough for recovery walks and long days at school, but still stable and grippy on uneven ground. They feel supportive without being heavy, and my legs honestly feel fresher after wearing them. Great shoe for anyone who wants comfort, support, and confidence to keep moving as they get older.

I’ve always stuck with New Balance 2002R (I own 7 pairs at the moment), but the Fresh Foam X Hierro v9 is on another level. The support is spot on, especially with my orthotics, making it perfect for training sessions. The UV colouring is a standout feature too, and it’s officially taken over as my go-to gym shoe.
