New Favourite Racer. In Wide Fit!
As someone with wide feet, I can’t say enough how refreshing it is to finally have a true wide-fit option in a top-tier racing shoe. Huge credit to New Balance for making this available – I really wish more brands would follow suit. My first run in the Elite v5s was a set of 3x7 minute threshold intervals at around 3:45/km pace. Straight away, I noticed how much better it felt being able to splay my toes properly. That little bit of extra space actually made it feel easier to generate power. The shoe has a really nice balance – cushioned, but with a lively pop. The carbon plate feels stiffer than the v4, and the toe-off has a genuinely propulsive snap to it. Compared to my Saucony Endorphin Elite v1s, these felt faster and more natural underfoot. And compared to the Elite v4, the v5 is a massive improvement – the v4 always felt more like a training shoe, whereas the v5 feels every bit like a racer. Fit-wise, it does run a little longer than expected in my size, but the width is spot on. Overall, it’s easily my favourite shoe right now, and I can’t wait to race in it.

Great Performance, Needs Better Look
I bought these having the previous four versions multiple times for use in races. I absolutely love the performance. I’ve been a very frequent marathoner and distance runner for 25 years now, having run 66 marathons and hundreds of other races. And with all that I’ve managed to run several new PRs in the SC Elite line just in the past year and a half alone, beating long-standing PRs from over two decades ago when I was in my early 20’s. My only main gripe with this new model? The look. And in the end the performance is all that truly matters, and that’s great. But New Balance’s race flats used to look so hot. Lately they seem to be leaning toward boring and looking like old man shoes in their look. This model is mostly white, which not only instantly starts to look dirty after just a few wears, but it’s also boring in its look. The New Balance “N” is also much smaller and not as prominent or cool. And as a guy, I’m comfortable with my sexuality, but only having pink as an option when I first bought these? Well, it’s about the only color that’s pretty unarguably feminine, and I really wish that I had had ANY other option. I’ve been wearing NB exclusively for all 25 years I’ve been running, and I like having something flashy and hot for my race shoes. Like driving a red Ferrari. Not something gray and boring like minivan. Please keep up the great work with performance, NB, but improve your looks. I’ve truly always wanted NB to be a cool brand that not only has products for regular people, but elite athletes as well.

Return To Race Form
The V5 is lighter slightly smaller more nimble and faster than the heavier V4 … so this V5 is a return to the racing pedigree of the V3, and V1. Grip is good too. Just ran a Marathon PB in this pair. Sizing as per New Balance, Size US12 my standard over last 10 years. Great return to form … very happy … but still miss the speed and lightness of the old RC5000 V2 my all time favourite…great if New Balance could make a carbon version of this shoe… racers would be happy to sacrifice some durability for speed.

One Of The Best Carbon Fibre Plated Shoe
Great in comfort and stability yet not too aggresive. The softness is just nice. I think is very beginner friendly carbon fibre plated shoe on the market
