V14 Seems Smaller Than Previous Generations
Best running shoes I ever had partly also because it is availabe in narrow. Meanwhile I went through plenty of pairs and generations: V14 seems to be half a size smaller than usual.

Wobbly; No Longer A Real 1080
New Balance has become “No Balance”. Ugh! The 1080 v14 stack is too high and wobbly. The roundness of the heel sole makes me feel like I am going to sprain my ankle by rolling over to the outside. The “rocker” effect is uncomfortable. The toe box seems narrower than before. It all feels like it was designed by AI rather than tested and tried by real runners. This is unfortunate, because 1080s were my go-to shoe for decades of pain-free and fun running. Even as the shoe design got softer over the years, I was able to keep in balance due to the shoe’s normal stack height, the ability to splay my toes, and the spread of the heel sole. But the 1080 v14 is a completely different shoe, and New Balance should have given it a different number. I tried and returned the 680 (too flimsy); the 990 (heavy and heel too wide). The description of the 880 indicates it has the same issues as the 1080, so that won’t work. The 1080 v12 (my last good running shoe) is reported to have had a 34 mm heel stack, a 6 mm drop, and a wide toe box, although some running sites did tests and say they believe the drop is more like 3 mm. I have been researching competitors’ running shoes for 3 months and have yet to find a shoe that works like the old 1080. This is not just an inconvenience; getting the right shoe has a serious impact on my physical health and well-being. I used to tell my younger friends to buy 1080s; one friend ran her first marathon last year in 1080 (it was either v12 or v13) and had a great experience with no injuries. But now v14 is no longer New Balance but has unfortunately become No Balance.
