• Features intricate designs within the jersey and graphics to represent different aspects of Pittsburgh
• The astroid: The iconic shape represents Pittsburgh’s history in the American Steel Industry. For decades, Pittsburgh was at the center of the steel industry and innovation, proving that innovation and engineering are at the heart of the city
• The check: A reference to the graphic that appears on the seal of the city. More than that, it is also a reference to performance. When talking about how steel itself has managed to evolve, carbon fiber has been used to improve performance
• The three rivers: The ‘Y’ shape is a nod to the Allegheny and Monongahela meeting the Ohio River. This was a point of inspiration for the print because aside from being iconic to the city, it’s the riverfronts that have truly evolved during this time of innovation and technology, and shaped a new look for Pittsburgh. Water as one of the key components to life serves as a showcase of the revitalization of the city along its riverfronts
• The bridge: The pattern inside the PGH graphic on the front of the jersey pays homage to the circular grates built into the windows of the pillars on the Clemente bridge, named after the man who truly exemplified the Pittsburgh spirit. The Roberto Clemente Bridge also connects Pittsburgh to PNC Park, home of the Pirates.
• The PGH graphic in a structural font is meant as a nod to the city's bridges
• The sleeve has the patch of the Pirates ‘P’
