About This Item
The Vaporfly 4 is a lean, mean, mile-eating machine. Nike® trimmed weight in the midsole, outsole and upper from the Vaporfly 3 without sacrificing performance. The result is a lighter, more propulsive all-around racing shoe that’s trusted from the mile to the marathon.
What’s New:
A higher angle of the plate and lower heel-to-toe drop compared to the Vaporfly 3 give you an improved propulsive feel
Upgraded Nike® ZoomX foam provides even more energy return than before thanks to a slight midsole reduction, giving you a bouncy, feathery feel
Nike® reduced the weight of the outsole by using a thinner rubber compared to the Vaporfly 3, eliminating unnecessary thickness
Design:
Engineered mesh offers improved comfort and a disappearing feel on your foot, reducing the weight of the shoe while supplying a more consistent fit
The handwritten number on the midsole salutes the wear-testers who put these shoes through our rigorous test process to give you the best performance possible
Reduced weight on the inside of the foot to give you a more stable ride
In-Shoe Comfort:
A full-length carbon fiber Flyplate provides a propulsive, racing feel
ZoomX foam runs heel to toe to give you a springy, bouncy feel
Durability & Traction:
Waffle outsole pattern with perforations saves weight and delivers multi-surface traction in various weather conditions
Additional Details:
Heel-to-toe drop: 6 mm

Seam Caused Severe Blister On Long Run
I’ve been a loyal Nike runner for years, but the Vaporfly 3 has been a real disappointment for me. On a recent longish run, I developed a pretty severe blister on the arch/inner side of my foot, something I’ve never experienced before. The irritation was bad enough to affect my stride and cut the run short. Looking at the shoe afterward, it seems like the upper and/or internal structure creates a pressure point in that exact area. Note the seam placement.... what is that? how does it make sense? For a shoe at this price point, designed specifically for long-distance performance, this is a major issue. Comfort and reliability over longer mileage should be a given, not a gamble. I really wanted to love this shoe the ride feels fast but the fit and upper construction just didn’t hold up for me. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t trust it for longer runs or races again.

These are my first pair of race day shoes with a carbon fiber plate in them and I think they're great, but I do think if they added one or two of those air pouches in the sole it would help a lot with cushion/bounce.
