Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why did you remove the carry handles? I've been the happy owner of a TNF duffel for many years - Fantastic duffel bag! But I recently ordered a new one as supplement, and realized that you on the new model for some reason have removed the two carry handles in the sides, which means that it is has become very difficult to carry the bag by hand. OK, I admit, the shoulder straps are improved - but that does not make it up for the loss of carry handles... Seems to me, you have turned your world-class duffel into a not too successful mix between a travel bag and a backpack. I've now returned the bag, and will try to look for an old model (or another brand) instead. Any change we can get the carry handles back?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New & Unimproved I had the old style Base Camp Duffel until someone smashed my truck window and stole it. I used it daily as a duffel for my workout gear. So I purchased a new one, not knowing The North Face had changed the design. This is a duffel bag right? Where are the handles? I would have been happy with a single shoulder strap centered on the bag, nope. The only way to carry this is using the backpack straps. The old style duffle had handles that met in the middle of the bag so you could carry it like a duffle. There is no way to do that now. I will be returning this one and trying to find an old style bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best duffel hands down One of the best duffels I've ever owned. I use it for everything from trips to work, to traveling long distances. The bag is extremely durable and I carry my things without any worry of the contents being damaged by water, dirt, etc. The xs is the perfect size for me, the small pocket on the outside easily carrys my wallet, passport, and keys for easy access. The best feature is the ability to wear the bag as a backpack and the straps are surprisingly comfortable even with heavy weight. A lot of people complain about the carry handles located on the outside of the bag being too small, but they work perfectly for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PERFECT CARRY-ON AND DAY-PACK I got this bag for a trip to Greece and am beyond pleased with it. Not only did it fit into each of our airplanes' overhead storage bins (even on the smaller plane), it also worked well for a daypack and, coincidentally, fit perfectly over the handlebars of an ATV. The zippered pocket made for great, accessible phone and passport storage; the compression straps are easy to tighten and loosen and do a great job helping everything in the pack feel tight and secure; and the backpack straps are comfortable. Re: a previous review, the black bag now has a black interior. I'm already planning on getting the extra small, too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 0 for 2 for cary options This is a new design of the classic NF duffle. But I can't understand why they call it a duffle anymore as it lacks two very fundamental basic aspects of a duffle. You should be able to carry a "duffle" by either a shoulder strap that attaches to the two opposite ends of the bag or, as an alternative, grab the duffle by the two handles in the middle of the bag and clench this with one hand. This bag used to have both; now it has neither. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. You can either use it as a backpack, which is not the best use of the design, or you can grab it by a single handle on the side, which makes for awkward unbalanced carry. I bought one from an online retailer and could not figure out how to carry it like a duffle - you simply can't.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Handles? TNF- What were you thinking??? I have two and I need more. I can't believe that you have removed the longer side handles. This makes the bag useless for carrying large, heavy loads. I have no idea who you surveyed before making this change to a classic, essential piece of gear. Just hang out at an airport any place with mountains and the choice is clear. Please fix this. In the mean time, I'll be looking for an older version. If you have one, please direct me to the place to buy it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect I've loved the classic base camp duffel ever since I saw them as a kid in various expedition photos and articles. To me they were always the true adventure duffel and while there have been imitators, none have managed to recreate the base camp duffel. I think everything about the most recent update to these guys were great, except the removal of the sewn in carry handles. M - XL have them and while I can see XS and XXL being left out, the small should not have had them removed. I understand that the backpack straps can be used as carry handles but they're awkward and not all that comfortable after a while in your hands. At 50L this pack should definitely have them, especially since the original small had them only to be removed in the latest update. Again, Super high quality duffel but this one will probably be returned and I'll continue using my old ones until these hopefully get updated again.
