Rated 5 out of 5 by from Indestructible I travel for a living. It was obvious, in my first year of travel, that the average piece of luggage is designed for a few trips per year. I went through every piece of luggage that I owned, in the first year. I've been using the 19" version, for 6 years, now. It's getting a little frayed, and has a few small tears, but is still fine. I'm retiring it to the vacation luggage. I've replaced that, and bought this size, as well. My favorite feature of this carry on, are the red wheels. I always know that it's my bag, in the sea of black carry ons!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would never buy this product again. I am extremely disappointed in this purchase. I have purchased many other items from North Face--other luggage, coats, clothing etc. & they have always been of the highest quality. I have never experienced such poor quality from North Face until now. After one use & I haven't even returned, it looks like it has been used for ten years. This piece of luggage is very disappointing. This is not normal wear & tear. Do not purchase it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for cross-over luggage I was looking for a rugged luggage piece that would fit some of the more stringent carry-on sizing (e.g. Delta), but tough enough to be ready for checking too. I have a North Face duffle and love how tough it is, but I am a small person and wanted to upgrade to something with wheels for easier travel. This bag fit the bill perfectly. I am very wary of trusting the sizing on websites, as many of them do not include the wheels or handle. This causes huge problems when choosing baggage to fit the carry-on requirements of airlines. I took this bag to my local airport and put it in the carry-on luggage sizer for Delta airlines; at 22"x14"x9" it is one of the smaller carry-on requirements. The 22" Rolling Thunder I ordered fit perfectly; it was snug, but within the required size. I have not taken the bag on travel yet, however I feel confident that the wheels and handle are sturdy and well-build. In a bag of similar size, I usually fit a weeks' worth of clothing for conferences/business trips, but it could extend to 10 days with conservative packing choices. Looking forward to many happy trips with this bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality, design makes it small I replaced an old Samsonite 22" rolling suitcase with the Rolling Thunder 22". The exterior dimensions TNF provides matches my Samonsite exactly. However, the Rolling Thunder has tapered sides, meaning the overall volume is much less than a suitcase that is perfectly rectangular. As a result, the Rolling Thunder is smaller than the suitcase I'm replacing. Other than that, the bag seems to be made with high quality... time will tell if it holds up to my ~15 year old Samonite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No-compromise, best carry-on I travel constantly for work. I only carry-on, although I am required to gate-check my bag occasionally. When a bag fails I throw it out, even if it has a warranty because I can't be without a bag for more than 2-3 days. I've purchased many brands, high-end and value brands. I originally purchased the 36" roller duffle for a long, gear intensive trip. The bag held 75 lbs of gear and held up better than any other I've ever owned. I was so impressed that I purchased the carry-on version as well. The canvas that the bag is made out of is heavy-duty, it can be dragged across the ground by baggage handlers without wearing through. The most impressive component of this bag is the telescoping handle. I've had issues with handles, but the one on this bag is strong. I've fully extended the handle and picked my fully loaded bag up using the extended handle and tossed the bag into the trunk of a cab, luggage cart at the airport, valet cart at hotels, etc. I wish TNF would show close-ups of the handle, it's truly impressive. The bottom line: this is your bag if you want the absolutely very best built carry-on, with no compromises.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great looking bag; Same disappointing Handle North Face makes beautiful bags with appealing color schemes and designs. The pockets zip easily and were placed with thought. The two external pockets on the new Rolling Thunder 22 are great for storing books and magazines that you can easily find before putting your bag in the overhead bin. The bags roll smoothly and quietly with their large rubber wheels. The RT 22 has numerous external handles and now includes a strap for attaching a secondary bag. The suitcase fits perfectly in standard sized overhead bins and fits sideways in a regional jet. The upgraded base support over the last iteration (Rolling Thunder size Small) should keep the bottom from crushing down over time and yet still provides just enough storage space for a few days of travel. My only frustration with this bag is the handle... and it is a major frustration. The first few uses of the handle are always exciting. It extends and stows smoothly with no noticeable wobble and looks like the sturdiest handle on any bag ever made. I used and warrantied a RT (size small) bag twice with broken handles before upgrading to the new RT 22 with hopes that the "handle issue" had been fixed. With both original handles, the button mechanism snapped and one side of the handle would pull away from the other. This past week, I took my brand new RT 22 on it's first trip. I lightly loaded the bag and babied the handle, thinking to myself "I'm going to make this bag last as long as possible!" The handle worked fine on my first leg of the trip, but wouldn't stow past the half way point by the time I boarded my flight home. In order to restow the handle past the half way point I now have to slam it several times like I'm vigorously pumping a bike tire. Bottom line: Buy this bag if you want a bag that will get complements from random travelers. Don't buy this bag if you want a bag with a functioning handle.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Descent bag until it breaks, TNF doesn't honor warranty I bought this bag after having a great experience with the Rolling Thunder 30". I used to have to travel frequently for work and it held up really well. I had a zipper and a wheel break while I was on the road so I popped into a North Face store and they exchanged it on the spot. I was so impressed by their warranty and the way that they backed their product that I also purchased the Rolling Thunder 22". The material on the outside of the bag has fallen off in large areas but I've lived with it. Recently some stitching on the seam tape broke and have left parts of the bag exposed. I took it in to get repaired and the manager at TNF Portland store was extremely rude from the start. He made me feel bad for bringing the bag in for a warranty issue. I figured they wouldn't do anything about the material falling off but I thought they would at least fix the broken stitching and seam. The manager told me that the damage to the bag wasn't a warranty issue but he would send the bag in anyways. A few weeks later I get a letter in the mail telling me the damage wasn't covered under warranty and gave a number to call to make arrangements for sending my bag back. The lady I spoke to on the phone was again very rude (seems to be how customer service is at North Face). She told me they would mail the bag back or I could have 50% off an item. No thanks, I'll take my business elsewhere. I received the bag today and was very disappointed they didn't even fix the stitching. They no longer honor their warranty so I would not recommend buying this bag. If you're in the market for a bag I would think twice about about this unless you only use it a couple times a year. Check out Patagonia, their iron clad guarantee is solid and they stand behind their product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dream Bag I have always preferred traveling with rolling duffles over suitcases and have gone through many brands over the years. I rarely write reviews - however, I think I have finally ended my obsessive quest to find the perfect travel luggage. These bags are high quality in every way. I bought the 22" and the 30" together and although they are both a bit heavier than I expected them to be, everything about them is so well designed making them easy to pack and travel with. The red handle with the side buttons are smart! The 22" holds about almost a weeks worth of summer clothing if packed with packing cubes. The 30" was more than enough for a two week trip to Asia. I was apprehensive about the Brunette brown design but the bags are really quite attractive in person and stand out in the luggage area. Very impressed with North Face!
