Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY THIS REEL There's a reason for the discount. The spinning version of this reel is amazing however the baitcasting version is trash. I got this reel and went fishing with it that day. Literally 2 hours into fishing the reel began to wear out to the point I couldn't close the spool without manually pushing the button back up.. So I just happened to have bought 2 of them so I switched to the other one thinking the first was just by chance.. Nope 3 hours later same issue. This reel is nice if you don't fish much or put a lot of casts into a day. Btw I've been using baitcasters for years and I like alot of Okuma products but this reel is horrible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value This is my second bait caster so I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to them in general. But my first one (shakespeare combo) made me want to give up on baitcasters forever and this okuma changed my mind. I put spider wire braid backed with cheap mono and even while learning have had no issues. No back lashes at all while actualy trying. (I had a fewonderful while goofing around trying out made up techniques). Seems well made and smooth. Very satisfied with this purchase. I do want to add that I was used to spinning reels so I picked a left handed reel to stay comfortable reeling with my left hand and casting with my right

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than a Abu Garcia Silver Max I bought this reel as a backup. I paid $24.99 after a $10.00 rebate for filling out the online questionnaire you get with every receipt. Plus it was already 50% off. This reel is smooth and casts with ease. I set the brakes and dialed it in,I had no backlashes. I backed the reel with some mono and put on some 30# braid. Caught some bass with it already. A few dinks and a couple of real nice ones. 1st one was 2.8 lbs the second was 3.2. They put up a good fight but the Stratus held up strong and reeled them in with ease. My only negative is the reel handles are a bit short that's why it's 4 stars. I would still pay full price for this reel, it is that good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It handled keeper snook I got this about 2 weeks ago and paired it with a Lews Carbon Fire 6’10” rod and Berkly 12lb mono. I went bass fishing in the river and ended up catching 2 keeper size snook (didn’t get exact measurements) the reel handled exceptionally well, drag was great and it’s very smooth. The brake system stops on a dime, cast control is excellent, I skip baits well with this set up. For those who have bad reviews, I think you may have gotten a dud as that happens in mass production. I got mine on sale which just adds to the awesomeness (: even at full price the set up is still worth it to me

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Beginner Baitcaster This is the second baitcasting reel I have purchased. The first one was much more expensive quality reel. However being new to baitcasting I find that one hard to use. Lot of backlashes. Purchased this one and can cast it real far. I can really load up on it and let it fly with out fear of backlashes. Not sure how long it will last, but it casts very well and reels nicely. Perfect for beginner baitcasting anglers wanting to learn to use. Will eventually buy another one for my son to learn on as well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Casts and retrieves great but line gets caught I bought two of these reels. The reels cast great and far with minimum backlash. Very smooth! I have caught some nice size bass (recently a 6 pound bass) with these reels with ease. However, both reels have one problem, the line gets caught between housing and spoils causing the line to break. Does at least twice every time I use it. I use twelve pound test with these reels. If it wasn't for that issue, this would be a 5 star reel for me. I have some expensive reels and these cast just as smooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deceptive Reel, Wow what a nice little Baitcaster Not a fan or a pro when it comes to baitcasters, real love/hate relationship but this real is the best I've ever used in the past 20 years. It's light, feels great in your hand and does very well with light weight top waters and excellent with worms/flukes. Jig heads and swim baits do the best given the amount of weight you throw. Super great reel, loved it so much I went back and bought another one. Still on sale for half price, "Winning". Do yourself a favor and buy one. Test your drop speed with each new set-up to save aggravation on potential birds nest.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from First Baitcasting Rod I was cautious about buying an okuma reel. I’ve heard mixed reviews over their quality but it was one of the few reels that offered a left handed version with the gear ratio I was looking for. I bought it as a Christmas gift for my dad and he is a very inexperienced Baitcasting angler and he has had no problems when he’s practicing casting it. I’ve paired it with a Field & Stream Tec-Spec Black Casting Rod and it is working exactly as it should. Not the most amazing rod and reel combo by any means but it is certainly a good starting point for someone looking to buy a beginner rod that isn’t a piece of junk.
