Doggie -Boat

I bought this about 4 years ago to paddle 2 dogs on rivers. I found it too heavy for lakes with all the extra dead-weight from the dogs & gear so I kept to running rivers. I have gone thru strong class 1 rapids with my well trained dogs with no problems! However I recently equipped it with a trolling motor and tested it on a lake and I LOVE IT! For the dogs I added padding where they sit, so the dogs don't slip. It's a very stable boat which is great for the 2 dogs I have.

Fantastic Product - Great Buying Experience

I just purchased this canoe to replace my original Discovery 133, which I ended up trading for a pair of wire cutters. Yep, you read that right. About a month ago I visited the completely fenced in storage lot where we live and had the boat stored in AND ACTUALLY CHAINED TO THE FENCE!!! What I found in place of my canoe was the pair of wire cutters that were used to cut the fence the boat was chained to. then they apparently lifted it over a 7' tall fence. So apparently someone else likes the Old town Discovery 133 as much as I and also thinks it is a great canoe. Seriously, it is a very high quality product, very stable due to it's wide beam, yet still moves easily through the water and is remarkably maneuverable. I was delighted to find a new one to replace it on the Old town website, purchased it immediately and just as predicted when I bought it, it arrived 2 weeks later at my door. The packaging was great and kept the canoe from getting and scratched or "dings" in transit. Excellent job all around by Old Town.

Beautiful Canoe

Great service, ordering was easy, all went well with delivery, well packaged and the Discovery 133 is a beautiful canoe.

Good Canoe - For Limited Use

The Pro's: This is a good canoe if you are looking for a small, stable canoe to use on small bodies of water, and will usually carry two people. The bottom is wide enough that you can haul a lot of gear. My dog likes it. The Cons: It's so short that you have to sit in the middle if you are paddling solo; sitting in the stern will push the bow out of the water and it won't track well. The canoe's short length also works against it in water with a current. I use it in a relatively calm section of the Potomac river, but the current is still s too much for such a short canoe - again, poor tracking. Finally, I'm a pretty strong guy, but this canoe is heavy; almost twice the weight of a comparable aluminum canoe. If you anticipate portages of any frequency or distance, look elsewhere.

Take Me To The River...

Happy that I finally bought this Discovery 133! Bass boat fisherman for decades (still am), recently branched out to kayak and now canoe. Perfect for rivers (and any other smaller waters). Love the traditional feel. Paddles pretty well for a wide hull and is very stable. No problem accepting a trolling motor to extend range. Triple Layer construction has held up well to some rocky areas. Light enough for my wife and I (early 50's) to easily carry and I can handle it myself with a kayak dolly.

Very Stable, Easy To Paddle

My wife and I bought this canoe to paddle and fish on our neighborhood's 100 acre lake in Owasso, OK. We are very satisfied with our Discovery 133 for this purpose. The canoe is easy to paddle for two amateur canoers. It tracks well. I was able to stand and comfortably fly fish out of it with no concerns for the canoe tipping over. It is well proportioned and easily manageable for two people to easily load/unload it and get it on the water quickly. My wife and I both found the web seats to be comfortable for the two hour trips that we take out on the lake. This is the perfect beginner canoe for small lake fishing and leisurely paddling.

Super Stable , Very Versitile

I have had this boat out for a canoeing trip with a full boat ( 3 of us) and a fishing trip with (2). Super stable and surprising fast boat for its width. It moves right along with a long Kayak paddle (260CM) . The only drawback is that it seems heavier than its specified 78LB.

Workhorse!

I bought this boat for both short family trips and max-gear solo excursions, and so far i’m super happy. The boat is about as big / heavy as I’d ever want to deal with solo, but having said that, i can totally manage it on and off the roof rack. Two kids fit side by side in the center seat, and solo, i can paddle from the center or flip the boat and paddle from the bow seat backwards. I’ve got a 280cm kayak paddle and a 54” bent shaft canoe paddle, and both work fine for solo trips. It’s not fast or light, and of course not for portages, but if you need a big gear hauler that can work as a solo boat, it’s perfect.

Perfect For 1 Or 2 And A Half

My wife and I bought our first boats this year. My wife got a kayak while I settled on the Discovery 133. I am handicapped with a weakened right leg. So I needed a canoe that was light enough I could handle on my own and control while solo or with a dog, but big enough for myself and our 4 year old son. I also wanted something stable as I live outdoors so I'm always toting gear around. My my son is about 40lbs and he is able to stand almost on the edge of the canoe without compromising stability. I always paddle solo. The Discovery 133 paddles fair on flat water and menuevers very quickly. I did find it easier to control while solo if I sit in the bow seat with the canoe backwards. I am beyond pleased with my Discovery 133 and have been grateful to add Old Town to my gear. I look forward to my first river trip with my canoe!

Good Boat

My first canoe, but I’ve used several from other friends and family. Very well made. The seats are comfy, but I would suggest back support if planning to lake fish or lunch on a lake. For the river it’s perfect. The finish of the boat is good. Easy to carry, and 13’ fits well in my 6’ truck bed with the tailgate down. The wide mid section makes it very stable on water. Don’t hesitate if you’re thinking about it. It’s a good boat.

Perfect Fishing Platform

My 133 is approaching 20 years old. Still going strong. Perfect for fly fishing and stable enough for me to stand and cast in. Been in ponds, creeks and flat water salt. Installed the oar locks and can row it like a guide boat. Take canoe paddles and you can float a quiet creek or river. Great family boat but can be handled solo too!

Amazing Workhorse Of A Boat.

I've had the Discovery 13'3 for over a year, and have really abused it here in our Appallachian streams. We fish hard in remote locations, and have boated a couple dozen hill country muskie in this. One angler paddles in the stern and the other casts from behind the stern seat, not catching either. Thanks, Old Town, this is the perfect boat for us stream fly anglers. Don't stop making it!
