Good Boat, Not Great. A Little Short.

This would be the perfect boat if it were just a couple feet longer. It looks very spacious, but as soon as you sit in it, it feels pretty small. I could really use that extra 2 feet of cargo space & Old Town doesn't have a canoe that fits in that notch. My only other complaint is that the seat is absolutely terrible. For the price I expected MUCH better. I've been paddling 30+ years, but most of my miles have been in a similar sized Dagger kayak. Comparatively the kayak feels like a sports car & this feels like a pickup truck, which is apt since the hole I bought it to fill was longer multi-day excursions. However, that brings us back to that little bit of extra cargo space that this is missing & a really sore butt. It's right in the middle of 2 tasks & it doesn't do either exceptionally.

Great Handling, Very Dry Ride, Comfortable.

I bought one and only did 3 short outings. Handles really nice, can turn on a dime. Paddled straight into 15 mph winds tracked good. Going with the wind it wants to turn on its own when not paddling but all short boats do. Over all I give a 8 out of ten. I now have 3 fishing kayaks to get rid of cause I will use the 11.9 solo. Thank you Old Town for making the perfect camping, tripping, fishing rig.

Great For Fly Fishing

I love mine. At 67 years old I can handle mine in any water. I fly fish in lake rivers and salt marshes this thing goes everywhere! I added the Yak anchor pully to the from and rear to control my position in the wind A small 5lb anchor works great. I have fished the small mountain lakes in Wyoming to the salt marshes in Ga. A fishing machine.

Nice Upgrade From 10' Pelican

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Upgraded from a Pelican 10' angler kayak which is great but i wanted to carry some extra gear that would not fit, so this is the next step and im enjoying the stability this brings. I went fishing in it today and it is easy to carry. I did get a truck bed extender to use with this new model as i have a shortbed truck and worked well. I was out in windy weather {15mph} and it tracked like a dream. it paddles very well and can create some speed. You do have to watch the winds and not have a wave come crashing into the interior which means all items must be protected in a bin or bag. Love this kayak, will keep it for hour long events.

Love It!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This discovery 119 sportsman is awesome! Small enough to run small rivers like a kayak, but just big enough to bring the dog, decoys and kit for hunting. Happy with its versatility.

Canoe For Me And My Puppy

It is perfect for what I was looking for. Using it to explore local waterways.

3 Seasons And Still Amazing

Have has been my solo for 3 years now it has been everywhere from big lakes to divert rapids. It sets nicely on the top of my jeep all summer long and gets used every weekend. Perfect for fishing of just paddling out.

Go For It!

Got the Solo 119 to cruise local waterways, I use the canoe mainly for fishing and hunting, and with an added trolling motor on a homemade mount, the Solo 119 is effortless to navigate

Solid Stable Hybrid Canoe For Fishing

Took it out two times in a month and I like the sturdiness and the simplicity of this vessel. It's designed for fishing and a lot of people use a kayak paddle. I can't get used to a double blade so I use it with single blade and it's doing great. Very stable and can hold a lot of gear. I wouldn't want to do tripping in it but for day trip fishing it's awesome.

Discovery Solo 11'9" Solo Sportsman

Handles real well, nice features, tracks well, nice boat to fish or adventure out of.

The Perfect Solo Canoe

This canoe is the perfect solo canoe to have. It tracks well and the seat is so comfortable. it is very light so transportation is easy.

So Great I Bought A Second One!

I spent years kayak fishing with different models, each with it's pros and cons. Got this several years back as a spare and for the wife to use on camping trips. Now she won't let me use it as she likes it too much. I'm selling all my kayaks and getting a second one. It's light, easy to load on the truck, holds tons of fishing gear. Quiet on the water, tracks extremely well, fast (faster than any of my kayaks - wow), and looks good to boot. As a note, I'm on the Gulf coast in Texas. Most of my trips are still water - slow rivers or back bays. This really fits the bill for what I do. It is better than any fishing kayak on the market.

Better Then My Hobie Kayak

I bought this a few months back after selling my Hobie Mirage Outback. I have zero regrets, tracks well, and you can get this going with ease. My kayak was difficult to grab and go. This is spacious, stable, and comfortable. I like the open pit concept like a canoe but solo like a kayak. I took our lab and she loved it. If your contemplating this purchase, just do it!

Huck Finn’s Adventures

I bought an Old Town kayak 4 years ago and really enjoyed it. Upgraded to the Old Town - Sportsman Discovery Solo 119 - Canoe so I can take my dog out too. I’m really pleased with Old Town products and look forward to to getting my new canoe on the water!
