About This Item

Product Description

The Lake is one of the lightest kayaks on the market. All you need to connect to the water, it assembles in under a minute. It's a stable and beginner-friendly boat that’s great for all ages. Our smallest, most portable kayak with the same durability as our expedition models fits easily in a backseat, trunk, or even a plane for all your adventures.

Product Features

Weighing in at just 17 lbs., the Lake assembles in minutes without any tools or experience. It's our most accessibly priced model ever - but nothing about it is cheap. Made from the same ultra-durable materials as our expedition models, the Lake boasts a clean and minimal design.
  • Folds from box to boat in 3-5 minutes
  • Weighs just 17 lbs. - less than half the weight of a traditional kayak
  • Stash it pretty much anywhere: your trunk, closet, boat, garage, van, even under your bed
  • Made of 5mm double-layered custom-extruded polypropylene
  • Manufacturer-rated for 20,000 fold cycles
  • 10-year UV treatment
Note: The Inlet is NOT compatible with the Oru Pack

Product Care

We recommend treating your Oru Kayak as you would a fiberglass, wood, or skin-on-frame kayak. Here are some guidelines:
  • Avoid unnecessary dragging or bumping - use the carry handles to lift, instead of tugging it behind you
  • Store out of direct sunlight - our boats have a 10-year UV treatment, but we still recommend sheltered storage
  • Rinse the kayak thoroughly with fresh water after each use - sediment and salt that dry to the surface of the boat can be abrasive over time
  • Oru kayaks are designed to be easily repairable if anything should wear out over time. Oru repairs team is happy to help! Just shoot us an email to service@orukayak.com with a brief description of your issue, a photo, and your Hull Identification Number to get the ball rolling

One Of The Seems Is Crooked So The Boat Loses Its Shape Once It Hits The Water.

Love the idea of this boat, the weight, the size, and relative ease of getting it set up (video instructions could be improved, written instructions were pretty much useless). Unfortunately, one of our seams isn't quite straight. Didn't think it would be a problem until the boat went into the water. The outside water pressure caused the seam on the left front to pop back in, and the left rear to bow out. The boat is pretty much unusable and water lapped inside (on a relatively calm day). This boat was bought for my daughter, who is a paddling instructor, so not exactly a novice. She was really impressed when she saw others with this boat and so we purchased it as a gift for her 25th birthday. We set it up once in the house (took under 15 minutes, mostly because trying to figure out the directions), packed it back up, and she took it down to a small lake for the maiden voyage with the above mentioned results. Took photos of the problem seam, emailed them to Oru (twice), left a phone message, used their online "chat," and no-one will respond (It's been a few days now). Side note: the link on the website to register your boat for the warranty is broken. Chat was able to send me a link that worked, so you may have to do that to register yours. Overall, we are obviously pretty disappointed in this company at the moment. I'll update my review when this is resolved (will hopefully have better news).

Not A Good Buy!

I was thinking about this kayak for a while but the price of $900 was way too high. Two days ago I seen in for $399 and bought at Dick's store. Tested today! Honestly it was disappointment. Good things about it are light weight and easy to transport - 5*. Assembly was much more difficult than expected. Specifically, the stern is not bending as it supposed to be and still have an opening. To get it done 1st time I spent about 30 min... - 2*. Stability. It is very unstable when you are trying to get in or out on a water - 2*. Comfort on water - 2*. Conclusion. I regret my purchase.

Love

So happy with the purchase. Bought it for my daughter who just moved by Lake Russell. Love that it is blue. Only saw black and white on the Oru site. Only problem was the Fed Ex shipping. Got messages that this them was on the truck and out for delivery on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Finally it was delivered on Thursday but it was confusing. I thought it was lost in the system. A bit frustrating.

Manage Expectations

I took my Oru Lake out the day it came in the mail! I was so excited. Assembly was super easy as promised. Not exactly 1-3 mins, but with practice I'm sure I'll get there. Super light! Easy to take out on the lake by myself. Big upgrade from the inflatable kayak I used last year. Out of the box the Lake model has an extremely uncomfortable seat. Poor support and I kept sliding around everytime I tried to adjust. The seat replacements/augments that are sold on the website are not made for the Lake model. Bummer! The Oru Lake is a bit tippy to be moving around and adjusting that much. The Lake model does not have a foot rest and you are essentially sitting flat on the hull. Killed my back! I was very disappointed and was seriously considering returning it. I read some forums and the after market foot rest was suggested. The difference was astonishing! With the addition of the foot rest I am no longer considering returning my Oru Lake. The kayak is much more stable and easier to control. The foot rest also adds some more power to your padding. I would not suggest this kayak without the foot rest. Maybe the company should consider bundling the foot rest with the kayak instead of the paddle.
