The elastic band inside the gator is too flimsy. One my first trip, one broke while I was putting the gator on my boot and the second also broke during my first hike.

I used these hiking in the sandhills. Lots of prickly burs. They shed water as well as the prickly burs quite well. Well made and easy to put on and take off. I like the small amount of stretch in the material. These are a good all around summer gator. They also don't take up a lot of space so you can bring them with you 'just incase'. I would recommend them for anyone.

Really durable gaters. The rubber band under the gater broke but I used them on a 24h long volcanic hike. I wish I could get a new rubber

They are a little difficult to put on and take off but they work good once on. They have kept rocks, seeds, sand and other debris out of my shoes and off my socks on my last two cross-country hikes. They stay up fine and I have not needed velcro to keep them in place on my shoes.

These are perfect for trail running, especially with shoes that have velcro in the back. I find that the mid strap is not needed when the velcro and hook is in use, but I love that the strap is an option. These are tall enough to protect the ankles during trail running but light for fast runs. There is a minimalist brand of gaiters popular with trail runners -- these are like them but more coverage, and more versatile with the strap and adjustment options. My only nitpick would be that the solid black version looks great, but the multi-colored options are not for me.
