Terrible Design

Terrible design. Third, the elastic strap snaps. OR was good enough to replace them, but they will no doubt break again and soon. The elastic is not durable enough to put on a shoe while hiking. I have the old type OR short gator, 30 years old. The elastic on the top is shot, but they still function for boots. Why not use that design and lighter fabric for running shoe and light boots? So it goes.

Terrible Design "Upgrade"

Worthless. The previous incarnation of these gaiters was great. I used them extensively for bushwacking and they held up with aplomb. Even though they were lightweight, they endured hundreds of miles of off trail hiking. The straps never once came loose. But OR decided to "improve" them by adding wrap around hooks to ensure the straps wouldn't come loose. Including when you're trying to remove the gaites! After a hard day on the trail, you have to bend over and struggle, manipulate, contort to try to get them off. Finally, after twenty hikes or so, I just ripped them off and threw them in the trash where they belong. My last OR product.

Do The Job, But Unsure About Durability

The primary purpose of these was to stop dust and other trail junk from entering my boots during the summer. They do a great job at that and now I don't have to stop every hour to clean out my boots. However I have noticed that the hardware on my boots is wearing a hole through one of the gaiters. For reference, I am wearing Zambalan Baltero boots. This is not the fault of the gaiter but is something to consider. I will patch them and see how long they last.

These are easy to put on and take off. You can also lave them on and just take off your boot if you want. They are not rigid so they sag a little if the boot is short or you are wearing shoes. I purchased a medium and I wear a size 8 boot. They fit fine. There is a little stretch to them so they would fit a larger boot for sure. I primarily got them for hiking and they do a good job of keeping the burs and sand out of my boot. Easy to clean as well. Only wore them in spring and fall. I would defiantly get them again.

Poor Quality

Second time I used these the elastic strap broke! Poor design.
