This is hands-down the most comfortable insulated jacket I own. The Helium Down Hoodie by Outdoor Research has become a staple in my rotation, especially with the long, cold winters we get here in Bozeman, Montana. I wear it constantly—whether I’m heading out around town, skiing at Bridger, or layering up before a dawn patrol hike. It’s surprisingly warm for how light it is, thanks to the 800-fill down, and the outer shell uses Pertex Quantum with Diamond Fuse technology, which helps it resist abrasion better than other lightweight puffies I’ve worn. That durability makes a real difference when you’re wearing it under a shell, bushwhacking, or stuffing it into a pack on repeat. I’ve also used it a lot as a warmer layer on backpacking trips—it packs down small into its own stuff sack and disappears in the bottom of my bag until I need it.
