Outdoor Research Helium Down Hoodie – My Most Comfortable Insulated Jacket

This is hands-down the most comfortable insulated jacket I own. The Helium Down Hoodie by Outdoor Research has become a staple in my rotation, especially with the long, cold winters we get here in Bozeman, Montana. I wear it constantly—whether I’m heading out around town, skiing at Bridger, or layering up before a dawn patrol hike. It’s surprisingly warm for how light it is, thanks to the 800-fill down, and the outer shell uses Pertex Quantum with Diamond Fuse technology, which helps it resist abrasion better than other lightweight puffies I’ve worn. That durability makes a real difference when you’re wearing it under a shell, bushwhacking, or stuffing it into a pack on repeat. I’ve also used it a lot as a warmer layer on backpacking trips—it packs down small into its own stuff sack and disappears in the bottom of my bag until I need it. Perfect for high-elevation camps or cool mornings on the trail when you just want something that’s warm without being bulky. Breathability is solid for a down piece, and I haven’t had issues with overheating during moderate activity. Fit is athletic but not too tight—easy to layer under or over depending on the conditions. If you’re looking for a light, warm, and comfortable down jacket that can handle real cold and still pack down small, the Helium Down Hoodie is an awesome choice. It’s been through a lot with me already, and I expect it’ll see a lot more use.

Awesome

Exactly what I needed. Great for winters in Montana and traveling to Alaska. Warm, windproof. Haven’t tested the waterproof ability yet, but keeps me dry in a snowstorm. Will be packing it in my backpack for a wind river trip this fall.

Best Jacket Ive Ever Purchased

I bought a couple of yrs ago and really impressed in all weathers it is my go to jacket as it keeps me warm in all conditions - if its wet I wear a waterproof light goretex jacket on top - my favourite features are the external chest zip pocket for my phone and the internal stash pockets - I need to get another as sadly with age I need a larger one - couldn't recommend more highly (and it feels so light)
