This mug is, as expected, exceptionally attractive, and beautifully constructed of high quality materials. An upside to this style is that due to rapid heat loss through the large, uninsulated lid, the contents cool to a drinkable temperature much faster than in my Zonirushi travel mugs. The downside is that once optimal drinking temperature is reached, the beverage continues to rapidly cool, and is quickly outside the preferred temperature. IF you quickly consume your coffee, tea etc this isn't a problem. Those who drink at a more leisurely pace will find themselves drinking a decidedly tepid 'hot' beverage. Fortunately, tea is my preferred hot beverage, which is -imo- much less objectionable when excessively cooled compared to coffee. I have two other 20 oz mugs of a similar style, a Yeti Rambler tumbler, and a Bright Line Signature B mug. Sadly, in comparison to them, this gorgeous Owala mug lost heat the fastest. It wasn't a profound difference, but Owala mugs are among my very favorites, and I truly expected a bit better. I've read reviews criticizing the sliding mechanism by people who found it a struggle to use. Ftr, I've long had the hand strength and coordination of an anemic five year old. I couldn't operate this with one hand, however, due to possessing hands which are both small and weak, there are many things I can't manipulate or operate with one hand. Consequently, my expectations might differ significantly from others. Although I need to use both hands, it is reasonably easy to open and close. When driving I open before hitting the road. This works for me. YMMV Drinking from it is a pleasant experience. The flow is smooth and easy, which is typical of Owalas, in my experience. Despite the minor caveat regarding temperature retention this pretty mug is worth having. Its lovely colors cheer me up and bring a welcome sparkle to my days.
