Good Kayak For Leisure Lake Time

I received this kayak for Christmas a few years ago and it has been quite a good little boat. It is lightweight and easy to put on top of my car, as a 5'2" female who drives a Crosstrek. Very smooth ride on the water as well although I do find it moves a little slower than other kayaks I've paddled. Definitely worth the money though, it holds up well.

Excellent Bang/ Buck!

Excellent stability, good tracking, good speed. The Exopack on the back end is a nice plus... but not ideal. Suggested mods to convert this kayak into an even better do it all boat for the novice to practical intermediate user: 1.) Add a storage pouch w/ locking cover underneath the front storage cover. Requires cutting the existing depression there out entirely. 2.) Purchase an Exochill for drinks, etc to emplace on the back of kayak. Manufactured by Pelican to fit this kayak, its a must have to keep cold items.... er, cold. 3.) Purchase plastic deck rails and a good cup holder to mount it to as needed so you have your favorite beverage close, spill free and (importantly) hands free until needed. 4.) Clip/ paddle mount 5.) Handles to mount on upper sides... for carrying. These mods will cost you and extra $150... but the practical benefit are very useful and better than most kayaks that cost 2x - 3x the price of this one. Again... very good kayak, that with minimal effort/ $, can easily become one of the best options available for all but the more professional users.

Been wanting one for some time but didn’t want to spend the money. Finally bought one and totally worth it. Have gotten compliments on design. Easy to use, stable but still can move with little effort. Would buy again.

Would Not Recommend

I bought this kayak because of the weight rating being 300lbs. I weigh 260 lbs but thought it would be more stable and a better option than the other model. The first time taking this out I noticed the rear of the kayak filled up with water. The design of this kayak is slightly different than others and does not have scupper holes in the back to remove the water that eventually gets collected. If you don't have the scupper holes slowly but surely the rear of the kayak will take on more and more water and eventually causing you to take on water in the sit in area. I would not recommend this kayak unless you're on a very very calm body of water. The times I have experienced this design flaw I was in normal conditions not calm but normal rec kayak conditions. I reached out to Pelican about this and they claim that there's nothing wrong and there's nothing they can do. Luckily Dick's was able to return the kayak for me but if they were not able to I would've been stuck with this kayak that I was afraid to use.

Built Well And Is Comfortable

I bought this kayak after using my girlfriends that was similar. this one seems to glide quicker through the water than hers. it handles well in the water.

Seems Like A Pretty Good Boat

Seems like a pretty good boat. It is quite light weight for what it is, but it is holding up to rocks and other abuse reasonably well. It is a very stable boat. Comfortable, but not acrobatic. Basically a fishing kayak. The storage container on the back deck seems like it should be a waterproof container but it is not. In fact it got completely full of water after just a couple small rapids despite being closed tight.

This kayak was very well made. I did however return it so I could purchase a sit on kayak. This was a gift so I did not use because as I mentioned above I prefer a sit on vs a sit in BUT all the aspects of it made me want to keep just to see if I could get used to a sit in because it was so nice!

Myself and my fiancé both bought these two years ago. Now I’ve decided to make my review. We use these quite often. I use mine for fishing and it works out great. They are very durable and perfect for any lake. Never had a problem tipping over when I reach for my fishing gear. We both are glad we purchased these kayaks and we do get a lot of use out of them. As long as you take care of them they should last a very long time. I highly recommended this kayak.

Nice Kayak!

Love the storage compartments in the front and rear of kayak. This model also has 2 holes to hold fishing poles. Light weight for easy maneuvering. Haven’t had opportunity to take it in water yet.
