    Good Budget Recreational Kayak

I have had this Kayak now for almost a year and have recorded over 150 river miles and one day on Lake Huron in it. I have used it for a trip of 8 hours in a single day (no overnights). Although this is the first kayak I have owned, I have paddled many different kayaks over the years (finally got tired of renting and being restricted to the river sections the livery services). So, I think I can give this kayak a fair review at this point. First things first this is a budget recreational kayak, nothing more nothing less. If you are wanting a touring kayak for long lake trips, a kayak for white water, or something for big lakes (other than calm days) this is not it. That being said for what this is, it is a good kayak and an excellent value. PROs It has EXCELLENT primary stability. I had to try to tip it to get it to roll. I had my torso in the water before it rolled! I can not talk to secondary stability as I don't think I ever got this kayak on edge! That is how strong the primary stability is. You can EASILY stand up in it. It is very maneuverable. This kayak is easily guided around snags and other blockages when needed. It is fairly easy to paddle with decent glide (although tracking is an issue, see cons below). It is decently light and easy to carry (some minor modifications make this easier) It is decently comfortable (again some minor modifications make it very comfortable) It is very easy to get into and out as the cockpit opening is decently sized but not huge. Plenty of storage spaces. Moderate deck heigh balances floatation and ease of paddling. CONs Tracking is poor at best (although I knew this going in, just look at how flat the hull is) The cockpit rim edge is sharp and will dig into your knees while paddling or shoulder while carrying the kayak (I added knee pads which helps both situations immensely). Once swamped, it is very hard to drain the kayak, however, it remains floating which is good. There is no water-resistant storage (I solved this by getting a small dry box that fits under the seat) The included foot braces never seemed to have the correct level for my feet (I fixed this by adding adjustable foot pegs) No Strap for the water bottle holder. As I noted in my pro and con lists above some minor modifications have made a major improvement in the overall comfort and useability of this kayak. I purchased a silicone seat pad even though the seat is padded the factory pad is really thin and not super comfortable for longer paddles. Back support is limited but this is a recreational kayak so all-day comfort is not really it's strong suit (this is the next issue to fix for me). I added knee pads to the cockpit rim for comfort on longer paddles. There are videos online on how to do this and it is very easy and cost me less than $50 and took about an hour. I do wish the kayak came with these at least. Second thing I added was a dry box. I also added a pad D ring to the front of the seat to tether the box to. The final significant modification I did was to add adjustable foot pegs (I used the Sea-Lect Designs recreational foot braces with the Thru-hull mount style). All I had to add was four stainless steel 1/4 20 nuts at $0.35 each from the hardware store. You simply unbolt the fixed foot braces and bolt on the adjustable ones. Altogether I spent less than $150 and made a massive upgrade in the comfort of this kayak. The construction material of the kayak while nowhere near the thickest and most rigid strikes a good balance I feel between durability and kayak weight. This is definitely not as durable as an Old Town kayak but it is also MUCH lighter (10 to 15 pounds in the same length category) than an Old Town! I have not treated this kayak gently, it has been roof top carried (on J hooks) for several 2+ hour road trips and it has hit LOTS of rocks, logs, and gravel bars and is holding up well! Overall, this kayak it a good entry level budget friendly recreational kayak. It is well worth the ~$300 price (as of March 2026) and if you can get it on sale (as I did) then it is a great deal. If you add some modifications this is a very good entry level recreational kayak.

    Low Quality Product

Seat break from sitting back, It's my second quest (passage) and the first one is great. Product isn't complete and shouldn't be sold like that

    Good Beginner Model

Seems like a stable kayak at a good price. Will be good for beginners and friends to use.

    Affordable And Sufficient

Got it on sale for $179.98 and it was worth every penny.

    Missing Parts

Missing parts upon pickup. Strap is frayed and the peice that holds the bungee strap to the kayaks is busted off.

    Perfect For Beginners!

This is my first kayak and I am in live it with now. This is a perfect kayak for beginners. Very stable and feel safe when on the water.

    Adult Kayak

More Like A Slender Boat-flatter Keel Makes It Harder To Paddle Straight And Holes Hinder Pace

Does not track well at all. The bottom portion of a kayak should be tappered. This helps it stay in a straight line when you maneuver and paddle forward. The bottom of this kayak is more like a boat, meaning its flatter and is very hard to keep straight. There are two holes in the rear of the kayak/boat. These slow it down significantly. They also create a LOUD gurrgle glug glug gurrgle sound the fast you paddle. So, your serene trip turns into a noisy outing-scaring away everything. So, its cheap and comfortable to sit it but you'll use a lot of energy trying to paddle this thing around. Good option for a budget friendly small boat to paddle around in. Bad option if you are serious about kayaking and want miles under your belt. Once you get in a kayak that is tapered more with a slender tapered keel, you'll have a hard time enjoying this one.

    Loved It. Comfy And Stable

Bought this a couple of weeks ago and so happy that I did! It’s stable and a nice size! Amazing value

    Exceeded Expectations

I purchased my first Quest Canyon100 in August 2024 (azure fusion) and was immediately pleased with stability and ease of handling. This economy kayak features no "bells and whistles", but a few careful modifications made this the perfect beginner/intermediate unit for lake paddling and river floating. Tracking is reasonably good and storage on bow and stern are more than sufficient for recreational use. The cockpit has plenty of room for an easily accessible dry bag and extra PFD. I ordered a second Canyon 100 in my preferred color, emperor fusion, as it was on sale. I'm excited to have both kayaks to further modify for fishing and to share with others who have an interest in leisure watersports.

    Great Kayak For Beginners

This was a Father's Day gift for my fiance. He actually picked it out in the store before I bought it and I purchased it buy online pickup in store. The pickup experience was super easy. We had the kayak out last weekend and had zero issues. It performed exactly as expected and was easy to maneuver for a first time kayaker. I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous his kayak is that awesome blue color and mine is red! My only criticism is that the water bottle holder doesn't have a bungee cord to secure it.

    Great Bargain

I was pleasantly surprised how well this worked for the price. Not the fastest, but I was able to keep up with others who had top of the line kayaks. Tracks well, good seat but you might want to add a cushion. One issue is the screw for the right side paddle line is in the exact wrong place for me, so my right hand hurts it half the time. Foot rests are stationary molded plastic but there are four of them so I was able to find two for different positions.

Waste Of Money. Dont Buy One

Used once and one of the straps holding the seat back ripped out. Impossible to drain if you capsize, front edge of plastic is sharp enough to scrape your shins when putting your legs in. Really designed for a very small person on very still water. Difficult to maneuver in current as it tends to spin.

    Lightweight And Cute

I it's lightweight and cute! The straps too tight it can be uncomfortable if you're wearing a tank top. But overall, it allows for great flexibility while kayaking.
