Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built Like a Tank In this price range, the Fierce reel is a great buy. The all-metal body assures perfect gear alignment. Great casting - the spool lip design, similar to the Shimano Sahara, delivers long casts. And that heavy duty bail wire is to love. Gave my Shimano Sahara to my son because of really flimsy bail wire, and got a Penn 2500 to replace it. Also have a 3000. I thought these Penn reels had no anti-reverse lever, the 3000 does not. But the 2500 does. Don't know about the other reel sizes. These are relatively heavy reels, larger than comparable models from other brands, so you should go down one size to get a comparable reel - check the line capacities closely. My opinion, best reel for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality built, smooth drag, and durable These are some of the features I look for in a fishing reel: Quality, great drag, and durable. The Penn Fiecre II has proven all of this and more. I use these reels continuous through out all seasons with no issues. I have fish for 35 years and for last ten years exclusively for crappie. Most crappie weight about 1lb. -2lb. however on a recent crappie fishing trip a yellow / Flathead catfish weighting 30 plus bit my minnow. The Penn Fierce II performed faultlessly. I recommend buying several of them just as I have. Thanks Penn. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great look, feel, price. Bought this a couple months ago and couldn't be happier, killer reel for the price and looks awesome, landed my personal biggest redfish, (33) on the first trip with it from the shore, went out on the Carolina skiff and landed 10 snook and 4 trout, landed countless bass in the neighbor with my best at 7lbs. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delivered on time and unharmed! I bought the Fierce II 8000LL and a 12' Penn Prevail rod. Both arrived on time in great shape despite flooding in Missouri (where items shipped from).. I live in NC and plan on putting this set up to the limits in the surf! I loved the Fierce 7000 I purchased a couple years ago...I paired it with an ole yeller series 11' rod but the action was too slow... I've had 6 foot sharks pull my rod from the rodholder and drag it down the beach and into the water...rinsed it off and it keeps on pounding!... The live liner should make for less running and more fishing! Thanks Penn!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Penn Fierce reel, As solid as they come !! Best reel to date. Had it for 2 years and is solid. Have caught nice kob on it and is also good for scratching, nice blue fish aswell. Strong reel that when dropped it doesn't bother mechanisms. Can also go for swims without a problem. An all rounder. Rated 5 out of 5 by from All-around decent reel I bought this reel last year. I have the 4000 model. I use it for party boat fishing and it holds up well. The drag does exactly what I need it to depending on the species I go for. It has a very smooth wind and the design of the grip helps me to hold on better when my hands are cold. I have never had any issue with the line knotting or getting caught up. It has held up through numerous cleanings to get rid of salt and dirt. No rust or erosion. Its an all-around decent reel. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fierce 6000 Superb reel I just replaced my old Penn reels that I bought in the 1970s with the Battle 8000 and the Fierce 6000. These two new reels have preformed way above my expectations. The first was with a 97pound bat Ray caught on the Fierce with 20 lb test. Well over an hour fight and never a fail on the drag system. Smooth runs Multiple times. The next was an 85 pound tuna that was very fiesty.these reels worked as good as it gets. Way to go Penn [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice improvements from the original Penn Fierce! I bought the Penn Fierce II 8000 yesterday, and at first glance, the two upgrades that impressed me the most were the heavier duty bail wire and the superline spool. I've used a friend's Penn Fierce, and I ran into some issues with the thin bail wire and line slippage with braid. Other than that, I liked the Fierce, so imagine my excitement to find out that Penn had upgraded both to fix those issues. Well done Penn! The Penn Fierce II is well worth the money to upgrade from the Fierce! You lose just a little bit of line volume by upgrading, but the superline spool makes up for that and more. You also gain 3" on the retrieve rate by upgrading. Not that it makes a HUGE difference, but I noticed a little bit more ease pulling up a 6' shark onto the beach. At the end of the day, this reel is built for war. I'm in love! It was well worth the money to upgrade!
