Rated 5 out of 5 by from Penn is great company I bought a 3500 Penn Slammer 3. I used it a couple times but it began to seize up while reeling. I returned it to Penn and they sent me out a new Slammer 3. This one works great with no problems. I have a couple of 3500 Spinfisher Vs which are excellent reels but the Slammer 3 has an even more excellent line lay. I am looking forward to really putting it through it's paces this season and I am expecting it to be a super asset in my arsenal. BTW: I am a surf fishing "dood" and strictly fish artificials (read "lures") which tells you that these reels are constantly in use while fishing (no bait-n-wait for this dood).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite reel out of the 10 Penn Reels i own !! I have had this reel for about three months now. I have zero complaints about this reel. For starters the Slammer 3 is a sexy looking reel. The line lay is absolutely perfect on it. A very heavy duty solid reel! The drag is amazing and the smoothest out of all the Penn Reels i own. Even under heavy drags on 6500 the drag is smooth. There is no hesitation or stickyness. I have caught many big snook and have stopped 100lb Tarpon around bridges with this setup. For being a well sealed reel the smoothess is still there. Thank you Penn for producing another dynamite product !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not for the weak or weary. I bought the 3500 model without even handling one first. Im a ultralight to medium avid fisherman, from perch to strippers. I live right by the Chesapeake Bay and fishing is a cast away from my house. So after receiving the reel i decided to purchase a new rod for this beast. I opted for a Berkley Lightning Shock rod 7'6" med light. Well i quickly learned that was a bad choice. I should of got a medium to medium heavy rod to handle the monster drag system. Even with the drag loose there is enough tention to hook and catch panfish. So anyone wanting to buy one of these sweet reels i recommend not to go light on your blank choice with this reel especially when using spectra pe braided lines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from honest i had this reel for almost a year. i have used this reel for everything from small tabies( small trevally under 1lb) up to dolphin (mahi mahi up too 25-30lb). i have a 4500 it had 20lb power pro for spining but i currently have 30lb spider wire. the only complaint i have is the drag is very hard for a 4500 reel although for me its not a big deal because i also use it to live bait the same tabbies for fun for barricuda when somtimes we hook wahoo. the reel is tuff and strong and can handle abuse. its defently worth the money, unless you are fishing for small fish where i think a fierce II is perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best so far!! I own a reputable reel repair shop in Florida. I am always buying reels to check out. I bought the new 6500 and it is a beast. The main reason for this excellent rating is the way that Penn has sealed the pinion and anti reverse clutch bearing. There are at least 3 seals above these parts. The reel is super smooth and very easy to reel. Its very well balanced and a joy to use all day long. Its a keeper for me and will be buying another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handle momentum/bail closing Casting Pompano rigs with 4 oz. sinkers into the surf in Florida caused bail to close prematurely and rigs to snap off. The rotational speed during casting set the handle in motion causing premature bail closing. This happened on all three surf rod/reel combos. Removed cover plate on line roller side of bail mechanism and removed a 'Z' shaped piece of metal only. Close bail manually after casting. Its been a few years and problem has not recurred. Hope this helps others who may have this problem

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Reel For The Money I bought my 4500 slammer the day it came out. Started out using it on the flats & it did well chasing big snook & tarpon. About a year ago I went back to fishing bridges & passes. Fishing 60lbs braid to 80-120lbs leader. I have it paired to a st Croix tide master 8ft heavy. Caught a ton of bigger land based grouper & snook. I’ve been trying to break my slammer for a while & still haven’t. Never opened it or cleaned or served it. I left it in a crab trap over night as a joke & it worked perfectly after. My reel is in constant neglect & it keeps on running smooth like it did out the box. I bought 2 other slammers since then & treat them with the care all reels should be treated with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Slammer 10500 Is a beast of a reel. Very smooth retrieve, super smooth drag under extreme pressure, no sticking. Just with they put a bearing in the bail roller. managed to land this slab of a Grey Shark 321kg / 708lb.
