Rated 4 out of 5 by from Workhorse of a spinning Reel Bought this reel to put on a 8-15 lb. travel rod after the bearings in the Diawa 3500 SC II it was matched to froze up after a brief dunking during a Florida flats fishing trip. I had to replace the Diawa if I was to fish for the balance of the trip. I replaced the Diawa with a Shimano Stradic 5000. The Stradic 5000 is an extremely smooth reel but likewise is not sealed. The new Spinfisher V 3500 is clearly of a more rugged design, but somewhat heavier in weight and more rigid and robust than either the Diawa 3500 or the Shimano 5000. No more surprises on my next flats trip!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent reel This reel is perfect. It's smooth as butter and with the full metal body makes it a beast that will take tons of abuse and keep on truckin'. This is by far the best reel I own. If you buy this reel you will NOT be disappointed!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just purchased the spinfish 6500,,,totally disappointed I ordered the reel on line without trying out the reel first after reading all the positive reviews which were given. Delivery was very fast and tried out the reel upon arrival/ How disappointed I was. The bail was very difficult to flip in a casting position, and it took both hands to turn the handle to flip the bail back down. I tried it numerous times and decided to take it back. Just to see if I hat gotten a lemon, I tried another in the store and it was the same. Thanks to dicks I gave it up and they returned all money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk, cheap gears, leaks Don't waste your money. Gears are cheap, soft zinc. They strip and wear easily. After one season the reel was leaking and gears grinding. Reel leaked on one week long trip and gears corroded. This reel had been fully stripped and lubricated before the trip and reel was always rinsed after use. Total trash. Even Penn knows this as they offer a gear "upgrade" for the reel. The new spin fishers do not have the zinc gears accept for the oscillation gear which will still fail on you. Shimano al the way now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Reel for Inshore/Offshore Use I get a good 200+ Days a year out of my reels on my charter boat( ) and these reels take a beating. The 6500 is lightweight, yet has enough line capacity for small sharks, and even Tarpon up to 70+ pounds. These are great reels, and would buy at dicks vs. bass pro!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Penn Spinfhisher V Spinning Real Excellent reel - took it with me to Ocean City Maryland with a new matching Penn rod last weekend. Caught some great tasting flounder in the back bay!!! Went offshore on Saturday caught three sharks on the Bass Grounds. Reel was very smooth as the drag was tightened and the excitment continued. The Penn Spinfisher was so effective, the captain started using the second one I brought along for himself. Slight color variation between reels but overall cleaned up very nice after catching those fish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for my inshore salt marsh fishing. I had been searching for the right rod and reel for fishing from my kayak in a saltwater marsh and this is it. Handles all sizes and types of fish with the smoothest drag system and resistant to the ravages of saline water. I received very good help in selecting this Penn reel and a matching Shimano rod from Doug in the Dick's store in Bluffton, SC. He reviewed all the possible combinations and I ended up with the perfect combo for use in fishing from a kayak.
