[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this axe for a mountaineering school on Rainer. This ice axe is great for general mountaineering but also versatile enough for complex or steep routes. I like the rubberized grip and curved shaft which elevate it from the design of a standard ice axe. These features really assist on steep snow climbing. Additionally, the teardrop design of the shaft make it more comfortable in the mid-dagger position. Finally, the weight is still relatively low despite its solid design.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great axe for casual and light technical use. Feels great in hand and very light. I'd recommend going slightly shorter if you're in between.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The product is very light compared to most standard mountaineering ice axes. It also has a good grip and design. I don't have anything else to add.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I LOVE this ice axe. Beautifully crafted and functional! I own Petzl regular Summit ice axe, which is a tad lighter... but I just had to have this beauty!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I haven’t had the time to use the summit evo yet, but the construction is top notch. This axe met all my expectations it’s built well and the rubber grip is a nice touch.. it’s lightweight too!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this a month ago and have not had a chance to use it yet. It did strike me as sturdy, well made, and light. I look forward to taking this on my next winter adventure.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this for ice climbing and was worried it was a bit long, which it would be, but it is the perfect length (66cm) for uphill snow/ice slogging.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was finally time for me to retire my long time ice axe. For those of you who remember Ushba (from the early 2000's), thats what I have been faithfully carrying since i bought it. Its gone with me to numerous Colorado 14er's, Mt McKinley and Aconcagua. For the time, it was light, strong and dependable. I've been looking at doing several higher degree if difficulty peaks (Mt Robson this fall) and I needed to update some of my equiment. My axe was one of them and buying the Summit Evo was an easy choice. One thing I have really enjoyed about the Summit Evo is that it is very comfortable to carry. Take a look at the head of this axe. between the pic and the adze, you will notice a small indentation. The way I carry an axe and to my hands, that little indentation is where the palm of my hands sits. Gone are the days of the pic lade pushing into my hands. For some additional utility, I purchased the optional trigger rest. I mounted it just above the grip so I can choke up on the shaft on steeper slopes. The bend in the shaft give me extra utility on steeper slopes. After using the Evo on a climb or two, I can't imagine going back to a traditional straight shafted ice axe. This axe isn't the lightest our there, but the extra weight does help it penetrate into harder snow. The way I look at it is this: the day I can't carry an extra 2 oz's, is the day I should probably retire from mountaineering. If your looking at new axe's, give this one a go. Good luck.
