[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried out the 4,000 BTU Heat Hog and walked away with mixed feelings. First the positives: It’s a well-built piece of machinery. It’s compact and easy to transport. The item is designed to run off a 1-pound propane bottle, which mounts directly to the unit. The included base holds the propane bottle, and therefore the base, securely. The amount of heat it provided seemed reasonable for the size of the unit. It was hard to tell, as I tested the unit in August. That said, I don’t think the 4,000 btu unit is really useful. It doesn’t seem to give off enough heat to keep a person warm. I could see using it to warm frozen pipes. However, since it’s propane, I wonder what kind of CO levels it gives off, especially given that there’s no discernible open flame. The instructions advise not to use indoors. The downside is the lighting procedure. It lights with a piezoelectric chip. The lighting process takes 30 – 60 seconds to engage and required both hands to engage. The instructions were confusing, and it took me several tries before I could figure out how to light it. All in all, I would consider this in a larger unit, but wasn’t thrilled with the amount of heat this unit provided.
