Top Plate Protection Is Peeling Off After A Single

I bought this model PB5BG9D2 model at Lowe's, I was happy with everything, easy to assemble, appearance and versatility, however I only used it once and after use follow safe cleaning instructions. The next day I was going to use it again and found that the protection coat of the hot plate was peeling off in multiple small areas. I immediately called customer support, got connected with an agent who informed me that the griddle is still functional and basically there was nothing he could do.
