Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light and easy to pack I initially really liked the bottle for how light it was and easy to pack when hiking and travelling. The bottle seemed very durable. However after only a couple months the bottle developed a little crack near the mouthpiece and now it leaks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holds water; flattens for storage I bought this model based almost solely on the name Platypus. We've had a number of Platypus products, both my Scout son and myself. I trust it. I've had flexible water bags before, but this one has an integrated cap and feels more substantial than the rest. Also, the others were too large or small. 750 ML is just right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, versatile product I travel by plane a lot so this is helpful to pack away until through security so doesn't add bulk or weight to carry-on luggage. I like how sturdy it is. Only drawback is that it is difficult to use one-handed but I work around that easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from sound check The DuoLock SoftBottle fell from a height of 25 feet to the forest floor. It made a "bang" loud enough to startle any animals for several hundred yards. It was much louder than the "crinkle" sound that the bottle makes in cold temps. The bottle was fully intact, without leaks after this event. I have not comparison-tested competing products. My wish list now includes a wide-mouth version that would fit water filtration systems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great cap, needs handle like the PlusBottle I've used a pair of these (inside a backpack) without issues since May. The relatively wide opening allows a much better job cleaning the bottle than on the regular version, which is an important if you use them with anything other than water. The handle makes it possible to hold the bottle without accidentally squeezing out the contents, but it needs to be redesigned.. Besides being too delicate, it gets in the way of rolling up the empty bottle to save space. I have a couple of the recently discontinued PlusBottles, and these remain my first choice, (for pure water), though they only came in a one liter size. A single two liter bottle sits in a small pack much better than two one liter bottles.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice design Dropping it to three stars because clip broke off while I was carrying it empty to go fill up. This was during third trip with it. This design is worth the weight over the standard 2l Platy bottle. Easier to hold while filling up. Wider mouth for filling and smaller mouth for pouring. It is a win/win.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Bottle- Carabiner Clip Weak I love the new locking lid, won't drop any more tops from the ski lift or on the trail, however the carabiner clip broke in the first month. I had it clipped to my pack and had to jump down from a rock and the change in direction caused the plastic piece to break right off and the water bottle to go tumbling down the trail. I would say that type of use would fall in line with typically use so I am disappointed in the durability of the biner. Hopefully platypus comes out with a beefier version.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Truly poorly designed and awful for climbing The last generation of bottles were the best. They were flexible (esp. the cap), so they didn't break if they got scraped or dropped on rock. They had a durable integrated handle, so you could put them on your harness with a carabiner no problem. And they were light. This new version did a way with all of that, and replaced it with something useless for climbing, and only appropriate for sitting inside a backpack. The cap is hard and brittle. In only 3 days climbing with them, I've seen more than 3 caps break from scraping against rock. The hard cap makes a sharp edge that then wears through the plastic bottle, leaving holes. Poorly designed. The cap is also very brittle, so getting dropped often meant broken plastic bits, and snapped plastic clips. The clip for that matter is pretty weak, again because of the brittle nature of the plastic. Bottom line: if you climb, these will be terrible.
