The bottom side of the blanket is waterproof and I did not notice any liquid that seeped through. Top layer also is a bit waterproof or rather repels water.

Rugged & Soft & Stylish, Oh My!
The blanket is rugged yet comfortable and very stylish. We used the product two nights in the row for a concert on the lawn. Two people lying down fit great to picnic prior to the concert, and then it held up well as we stood on it throughout the entire 3 hour concert. The second night there was even a light constant mist so we reversed it and let the rugged waterproof side protect us from the rain while the soft side kept us warm. It rolls up easily and even has a carrying strap/handle.
