I rigged up my Rapala with the seriousness of a man who has watched too many fishing YouTube videos. I had the rod. I had the polarized sunglasses. I had the hat with the hooks in the brim. I was, by all outward appearances, a person who catches walleye. I cast that beautiful balsa wood minnow — hand-tuned in Finland by people who take fishing very seriously — across the glassy surface of a lake so quintessentially Minnesotan it had a loon on it. The Rapala wobbled. It dove. It did its little shimmy. A predator struck with terrifying aggression. That predator was a bluegill the size of my palm. A juvenile. A child, really. He hit it so hard he nearly folded himself in half. The lure was 70% the length of his body. He was basically mugged by a piece of fishing equipment designed to fool a 5-pound smallmouth. He did not care. He was furious. He was stupid. He was magnificent. I released him back into the lake where he immediately swam three feet away and resumed doing whatever bluegills do (staring, apparently).

I haven’t caught a fish on it yet, but the action is really good. It dives semi deep and it wiggles side to side. I’m happy with it.

Your basic starter lure but a good place to start. Quick to rust though…
