Rapala Shad Rap Crankbait Actions

Best Uses of the Shad Rap Crankbait:

  • The Shad Rap is best paired with monofilament and fluorocarbon fishing line. Mono is ideal for fishing around grass, while fluorocarbon offers minimal stretch and properties that allow the crankbait to go deeper
  • A crankbait rod longer than 7' with medium heavy power and moderate action has enough length, flexibility and balance to maximize the benefits of the Shad Rap
  • Pair the Shad Rap with a reel that can hold a substantial amount of line for farther casting with a slow gear ratio to fish the bait slower

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old Favorite I've caught fish on Shad Raps since they were introduced a few decades ago. I've probably caught more fish on these than any other crankbait but admit that I try one of these first because I have so much confidence in it.I troll the #7 for walleyes and occasionally get a big crappie or channel cat.I cast all the sizes for bass and have gotten lots of crappies and big bluegills on the smaller versions. Even the original silver, gold and perch colors still catch lots of fish.I'm glad that they're not as expensive and many other lures and appreciate that Dick's has them on sale from time to time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shad Rap 07 I haven't used the two I purchased yet but I love these particular lures. I was catching nice walleye, saugeye and sauger in the ohio river when I lost my last one this color. They didn't want any other color those days or smaller sized ones. Did catch one on a SR-05 and two on a SR-07 perch color but that was it. They hammered the black backed one for 3 days until I lost it on a snag. Weather and river conditions have prevented me from trying the new ones so far. Hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect bait for winter The Rapala's Shad Rap is the perfect bait for winter and fishing a variety of conditions. It's tight wobble and slim profile entice sluggish fish to bite. I fish this bait with a pull- pause retrieve over rip-rap and in winter over grass in 12 foot of water. Last week in the middle of February I caught nine bass with this technique in four hours. It is a great bait that must not looked over. A must for the tackle box.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dick's Bucks As a Rewards member I received $10.00 Dick's Bucks. Ice is melting and we are ready to get the boat out. Found this and another Rapala on sale. Will use them to replace lost ones in tackle box. Have used them for many years trolling Wyoming lakes and this one has netted lots of Rainbow and Brown Trout, even a few Walleye.Got a couple great lures for $2.00. Can't beat a deal like that

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bait--Sharp Hooks A great little bait. Hooks are very sharp. The first time i used it ( last Thursday) a flopping bass sent me to the emergency room with hooks buried in my little and index fingers. Catches fish and the hooks are very sharp. Those problems aside, The #4 and #5 versions of these shad replica baits are my "go to, old faithful" crank baits. I figure a very occasional hook in the hand is proper recompense for all the catch and release bass fishing I have been doing over the last 40 years. My new vow is that when fishing with crank baits, I will always use a Boga, no matter how small the fish. Indeed, it is usually the little fish that catch your fingers.Again, these are superior baits. My only complaint, is that these baits are light and casting a long distance is difficult. That means you need to fish them with spinning tackle. Unless you are very skilled (I am not) they don't work well with casting tackle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go to lure Normally the Shad Rap in the shad finish is my go to lure, but this one may replace it, or run a close second. Looks like a crawfish swimming backwards and the color is similar to the crawfish in my area. Smallmouth bass really hammer this lure. Fish it near drop offs or weed lines. A reel and pause retrieve is most productive. Great bait for rivers and current.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great lure I was on a lake getting out-fished by my younger brother recently, who was using this lure. Needless to say, I bought 2 of the crayfish color. This lure seemed to work when nothing else would. He's caught numerous fish on it. We've even nicknamed it 'The Producer' because it always seems to produce a fish or two. This lure is a great color and has great action.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go to crankbait The #4 and #5 Shad Rap crankbaits are my go to baits when things get tough. I can't begin to tell you how many fish I have caught on them. The Shad finish seams to be their best color. Might be because of that faint purple/blue stripe on each side. They make other shad finishes, but this one out-catches them all. Perch is great, too.
