Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good bat at this price level. My son chose this bat over some of the more expensive models due to the feel of the bat. Given that all of the new USA bats are supposed to have no more pop than wood bats it doesn't make much sense go drop big money on youth bats anyway. So far he has used in about twice a week during indoor practices for 3 months and he loves it. The bat seems to have a big sweet spot. Not sure yet how it will compare to his old bat in terms of distance since he has only used it indoors. Overall it seems to be a good bat for the price. Bigger barrel and lower drop size than some other bats will probably make this a good option for bigger or stronger kids.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok I really dislike these new USA standard bats. They are heavy and have zero pop. My son is on the smaller end and currently uses a 27/14, we went with the Rawlings 27/16 because it's the lightest drop (-11) I found. He is struggling with the weight difference and at contact the ball is not going very far. I recommend parents to start training with these bats before 2018 as your child will need to get use to swinging a heavier bat with no pop at all. Eventually I might invest in the Easton Composite -11 but it's on the high end price $279. Hopefully they come out with a drop -12 or -13 2 5/8 with better pricing than the Easton. As of now there are not too many options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 8 year old likes it! Bought the 29/18 oz for my 8 year old to get use to the bigger 2 5/8 inch barrel and possible difference in weight distribution. I am no expert but this will be my sons second year in travel baseball and for the money seems like a solid buy for a good utility bat. I’m sure the team will be using high end bats come spring but I don’t think the high end bats are worth the 300 dollar price tag. Especially for 8 and 9 year olds. Also it appears USA bats has attempted lessen the performance and pop of the youth bat therefore shouldn’t it level the playing field? Either way I like this bat for the money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never again Bought the Rawlings Prodigy bat to get my son into a Big Barrell. Have used it at 3 practices and this thing looks like a mountain range. This bat has a dent every place the ball has made contact. I am in the process of sending it back to Rawlings , but really don't want another junk bat in return. I have read good reviews , but am now finding alot of bad reviews, mainly with the bat being dented and not holding up. I will have to purchase a new bat in the meantime , while I deal with Rawlings. Back to the trustworthy Easton's. I should have just purchased 2 Easton Beast x when I ordered my older sons

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid With the new bat rules and lack of solid info on any, I let my 9yr old son (Little League, All Stars, and Travel) just find a bat that "felt" good and he picked this over any of the higher priced competition. So far so good with nice pop and a super comfortable grip. Recent LL evaluations saw him out hitting the kids with the $250+ bats. Don't be turned off by lack of pop as so many reviews claim in these new bats....the field is more level now and a hitter will hit, whether it's high or low priced. Great value so far

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent beginner bat Purchased this earlier in the fall to get soon to be 11 yo son acclimated to the heavier & wider bats for next year. He'd been using -13 29" bats for spring & fall ball this year but I took the opportunity to bump him up an inch w/this Rawlings and he doesn't seem to be adversely affected during his weekly group hitting lessons this winter. I'm assuming this model is very similar to the Rawling 5150, possibly w/lower quality alloy since it's $20 cheaper. But it certainly still incorporates the pOp 2.0 tech cause this bat is LOUD when solid contact is made. It's also one of the very few -11 bats available and pretty much the only one under $100. For some reason the sub-$100 USA bats by Easton for 2018 are all -8 or heavier. Not really "speed" anymore. But so far the bat has held up well in mostly coach-pitch practices. He used it a few times in one or two fall games and it didn't change his hitting too much. He's not a power hitter to begin with and it seems the wider bat helps him make more contact even if the overall bat speed has decreased. Also been trying to get him to do more over/under drills and strength exercises. Hopefully it'll hold up fine once I start taking him to the indoor pitching machines. So for the price, I think it's an excellent bat to get your kid used to the new USA standard, especially if they're coming from the -12 and below drops.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bat! I was very nervous about buying a new bat for my son. He's a little guy and the bat he was using last year was only 14 oz and is now illegal, so I was trying to find a relatively light bat that would work for him bc he only weighs 46 lbs. I read a million reviews and finally settled on this bat for the drop and the bigger barrel. My son has played tball since he was 3 (he's 8 now) and he's a pretty good player, but he had a really hard time with the pitching machine in the fall. I don't know if he's figured out the pitching machine, or the bat is just that great, but he's hitting it all over the place now! The other kids on his team are hitting well with it too. I bought him the 27 and the coach's kid has the 29. My best friend just bought the 28 for her son so we should have the team covered now! She heard the coaches talking about how the Rawlings bats seemed to have more of a pop than the more expensive Eastons they bought. One last thing, I was going to order it online, but was afraid my son wouldn't like the grip, or would swing it and wouldn't like the way it felt. He grabbed it in the store, swung it around a couple of times, and said "yep, this is the one." (We compared to 3 or 4 others that were also in the store). Hope this helps!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beware: bat is overweight by ~2 oz. My 8 y/o son (4’3” and about 50lbs) previously used a 28in/15oz easton s500. All of the USA Basebsll bats are going to be heavier so we’re trying to find as much of a drop (lightest) as possible. This Prodigy is listed as 28/17 however upon weighing it, it came on at 18.8 oz, nearly 2oz heavier than listed. His previous Easton S500 (now illegal), for comparison, weighed in at 15.6oz, so pretty accurate. Unfortunately the new USA Baseball Rawlings and even “lighter” Easton S450 -12 drop have all had these reported issues of being 1.5 to 2.5 oz above their listed weight so there’s not really a great solution to those smaller kids needing as light a bat as possible under the new rules.
