Just picked up a pair of Blacksmith in light brown. The boots require some breaking in but, as with all new quality shoes this is a given. I only have 2 concerns with the design one being the speed lace hooks. They’re sewn into the leather but the manufacturer did not “smooth out” or file the ends which come in contact with the tongue of the shoe and create deep scratch marks. Since these only show when unlaced and open and not when wearing it’s an acceptable inconvenience but I would suggest Red Wing take this into account and file down the sharp contact points against the tongue. The other issue is the light brown leather shows every tiny scratch, nick and scuff mark. I know this can be buffed over but to have to constantly smooth out the marks can be a bit of a chore. Other than these issues these are well worth the $ spent, they’ll last for years and the patina after months and years of wearing should be beautiful.

Great boot, looks stylish and saves money in the long run. Purchased Copper Blacksmith 4.5 years ago. I sized down one size to make them a snug fit. I wear them daily for work year-round in MN. I used Mink Oil right away which darkens them a bit, which I like. The soles are hard which makes them last long, but I am also careful on icy pavement during the winter in MN. My only complaint is the laces, which are short, flat, and waxy laces, which I replaced with a longer round style that I prefer. I also read some negative reviews that seem to think dark indentations on the tongue from the backside of the speed hooks and eyelets are a problem - my boots have dark marks, but tongue is fine after 4.5 years.

These are the boots my grandfather wore when I was young. Now I’m in my 60’s. I’ve had my current pair for 10 years. Wear them everyday to work on my farm. Once they get broken in they are very comfortable. They’ve been wet, covered in mud and they clean up great. If you regularly do maintenance they will last a long time.

Many women in my life have told me that these shows are reminiscent of pilgrim shoes. My “Benjamin Franklins” or my “colonizer kicks”. Personally I’ve always thought they were more like docs. Had them 5 years resolved once, they’ve gone everywhere. Love em.

My Blacksmiths are about 3 years old. I broke them in by walking 5.8 miles afterwork on the boardwalk in Ocean City in the dead of winter, my walking club would laugh at me, and I’d be a liar if I said it wasn’t tough.. It was the best break I’ve ever pulled off, I wear ‘em with no socks all the time these bad boys are like gloves on my feet.. The only treatment I ever do is some Hubbards Shoe Grease if I remember, I just smear it all over the seams, just in case… I was stomping around in puddles just the other day thinking about what a great product RedWing makes, I have boots from the other ‘big’ brands, my #8 Last Blacksmiths are my goto, if I can’t wear FlipFlops, Love ‘em , they are Super Dope !
