I already own a Redington Path rod (5 wt) so I am familiar with the build quality and performance. I wanted a back up rod for a trip I am taking for Salmon so I wanted an 8 wt rod. I saw this on sale and made the purchase. However, the next day I saw my order was cancelled. I again went to the DSG website and saw it still on sale but for even less! It was over 50% off list price so I took a shot and I actually got the rod. Redington is a very decent rod for the money. It has a decent action but in my opinion a great deal depends of course on the fly line you choose. I cannot overline this rod like I can my other rod, a Greys Kite. If I go with a Cortland or Orvis 8 wt weight forward floating it loads and shoots line excellent. If I try an intermediate 9 wt weight forward line like for SA it does not perform as well. But in my case for what I paid I have Zero complaints. I matched it up with Orvis salt water line on a large arbor orris reel and it is a really nice rod for stripers and will serve as my backup steelhead and salmon rod.
