First let me say this combo kit is a great starter kit for anyone getting into or looking to get into fly fishing. You'll probably end up replacing the fly line as the Rio line it comes with is subpar. Other than that it will get you to the next level where you can start to think about upgrading to a better rod/reel as you become more proficient. The mixed review comes from Redington's inability to have the replacement rod tip for the "trout" 9' 5wt in stock. You will end up breaking it at some point especially if you are starting out. Sending the rod to Bainbridge Island, WA takes over a week to get there and a few more to make its way back. That means no fishing for over a month. Redington has very other model tip in stock but the Trout. Which means it must break often. I can't say I can recommend this company overall. I think Orvis would be a better solution, my friend sent in his rod for repair and had it back within a week! If you did purchase this, best of luck, try and order a replacement tip before it breaks if they can ever get it in stock....tight lines!
