Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing accuracy, spectacular value. After much research I bought the 597 Remington with scope today. I took it right to the range and shot 200+ rounds of Federal bulk ammo though it without one single glitch. The scope had a slight problem that being, one of the scope rings wasn’t securly attached. Took me a while to realize this, but once I did and corrected it, I got it sighted in quickly. I was shooting it at 30 and 50 yards, this thing will drive nails from that distance. I was shooting groups of ten, and you could cover them with a quarter every time. Again, I shot 200+ rounds though this gun and had zero misfires, and zero jams of any kind. Totally pleased with it. Plus it was on sale today. Highly recommend this rifle/scope combo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not disappointed I purchased this a month ago and only had two opportunities to shoot it. I got this style 22 for two reasons. The first is because of how much I enjoyed shooting the old nylon 22 Remington made when I was a kid. The second was because it is a clip fed. I haven’t had any hiccups with feed or ejection. Probably about 200 rounds through it. I purchased a additional 10 round clip that I had no trouble with. Also I purchased a 30 round clip that I ran one cycle through. It jammed. But it appears to of been a clip issue. The clips I purchased are Remington products. But overall it is fun to shoot. Scope is decent. This gun is fun to shoot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good practice rifle picky of ammo I picked this up from Dicks during a sale as my first rifle. Glad with the quality for the price. The magazine is very picky of what kind of ammo you use. I have tried at least 20 different 22LR ammos through it, and it does not necessarily love expensive, "premium" ammos. My rifle cycled through bulk white box Winchester LRN with no problem whatsoever (1 failure to fire in 400, fired at second strike) ; Federal bulk LRN and Remington golden HP are okay as well (about 2-3 failure to feed per 100) ; Winchester HP copper plated somewhat shaky (1 in 20 failure to feed); Elley subsonic is the most expensive yet the least reliable on this gun, (1 failure to feed and 1 failure to eject for sure every magazine). Third party large-capacity magazines may have a different appetite for ammo. In short, it's a quite accurate value-packed 22lr rifle for practice, but it's also very picky on ammo. Take your time testing each brand/type before stockpiling ammo for this gun. For the money it's a solid 4 star.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ok after some work Ok we bought two of these 597's on sale at Dick's at Christmas for the kiddos. I thought this would be a great gun for the price. Big disappointment. First time at the range with one of them was very disappointing. Miss fire after miss fire. We were shooting federal champion. Looking at the casings I found that the firing pin was barely marking the casing. Went home did some research and found that this is a big problem with these guns along with jamming. In a couple of the forums they suggested changing the hammer and extractor out with the Volquartsen target hammer and the exact edge extractor. OMG this gun is so awesome now! It now performs as it should. Cost about $57 for the upgrade. I installed theses myself within an hour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Gun This gun is great. It's well balanced, accurate, comfortable, and so fun to shoot. Perfect for beginners and kids. Ammo is cheap, and u can shoot this gun all day long. The only thing I'd say is it's picky about ammo, but most guns are so that's not a big deal. I have 3 Remingtons 223 308 597 and I never had a problem with any of them. Remington is quality and I will always buy their products. Couldn't be happier. If u haven't yet, go out and purchase this firearm. U will enjoy it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ladies rifle for the price Bought the 597 a few weeks ago as a surprise for my wife and she loves it. She's new to shooting but was eager for more. We had another .22lr rifle but sharing wasn't much fun so I decided she needed her own. This has turned out to be a very solid and fun rifle for her to get started with. She's already nailing the bullseye and quickly goes through a couple hundred rounds. Make sure you get a couple of extra magazines. She goes through a clip very quickly so it's nice to have a few extra magazines ready so you're not reloading very few minutes. Rock solid rifle and if she's happy, I'm happy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective or Bad Rifle? Recently purchased the 597 on sale. 100 rounds through the rifle on the first trip to the range and I had no kidding 15 failure to feed malfunctions. After the third I took the manual out to make sure I was loading the mag correctly and I was. The optic, while clear and of seemingly good quality, would not adjust. I am contacting the manufacturer for a hopeful repair or replacement.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not waste your money Rifle could not be sighted in (adjusted all the way left and down, still grouping 6" to the right and high). Disassembled and found barrel not secured to receiver with substantial wiggle between the two. Called Remington and they offered to repair, but have to ship off out of state and the process is stupid. Told Remington to forget it and fixed myself. Rifle STILL couldn't be sighted in. Swapped scope rings front to rear and was able to get it sighted in. About 100 rounds later, trigger quit working. Disassembled and found trigger bar pin had come loose. What's more, there is nothing holding it in place, it's just floating around in there waiting to fall out. Did some looking online and apparently this is a common problem going back several years. The design is garbage and the quality control non-existant. Do not waste your money on Remington.
