Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Beginner Derby Skate! Purchased these skates way back in 2011...maybe 2012? Whenever they came out, it's been a while. All 4 of my girls started out in Junior Derby with these and my oldest would probably still be wearing them if her feet hadn't grown....and I'd be the proud buyer of several pairs of the same size! The nylon plates are sturdy and flex as they should. Nylon plates were MADE to flex, metal plates weren't to allow for easier, proper turning on a dime. You do have to play with them a little to get them where you like them - plate-wise - but ANY true skater knows this. NO skate should be worn "out of the box", even with a custom build Some prefer their trucks a bit more loose, some like them tighter, some prefer to switch out the stops, some don't, some prefer to use a conversion kit to make the stops into the adjustable style instead of the fixed style that comes with most of the lower end skates. Also don't forget to check the lock nuts! Those are screwed on by a machine at the factory so they do tend to come a bit tighter than they should be. Also, some like to add a jump bar, depending on the type of skating you're doing. The point is, don't be afraid to play around with them until you get them how you like them....if you don't know how, ask at the rink you skate at to make adjustments. We did have to do a wheel upgrade but that was only because we're used to skating on the wider speed wheels (the ones they come with are so skinny, I haven't seen any like that since I got my first pair of Chicago skates when I was 12!)...but as our whole family skates (all 7 of us), we've always got extra parts lying around, so there wasn't any cost to convert them to how each girl liked them. The speed straps are made so you don't actually have to fully lace them, as the strap "catches" the laces a bit. This gives your feet and ankles a lot more room for jam and shuffle style skating without having to worry about them falling of mid-move, which is a nice little "bonus" feature. All 4 girls said they were comfortable, until they started outgrowing them, of course. I've been using them since the girls outgrew them, skating roughly 2-3 times a week. I don't know if they're comfortable for me because they've been well broken in by now or if that was actually how they came, but they fit perfectly. I guess it's a good thing I have small feet. Overall, for the price, they really can't be beat. Roller Derby is my new go-to brand when looking for inexpensive skates we can easily adjust and that will last for years...if my girls' feet ever stop growing.....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very cheaply made and over priced.. These are all plastic except for the truck axles and bearings. Laces are thin polyester that get easily hooked on the velcro strap. The nylon truck chassis flexes as it should not and the truck axles do not rock as they should for turning. The shoe is like a $5 pair at Walmart, fit is not comfortable and for me painful. The vinyl will never form to fix your foot like real leather. The wheels are the best part, lots of grip. Toe stop is plastic not urethane.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big mistake OK....the spin of the specs sound great. The reality is the skate needed a ton of setup. The wheel nuts were on so tight I had to get an impact wrench to release them. The wheels out of the box barely would turn. After some setup, it still was very bad. The wheels are just too soft for indoor use and the bearing are horrible regardless of the unverified marketing claims by Roller Derby. You have to spend about a 100 dollars to get into the area you want. Do no waste your money on these and have to spend another $100 in upgrades.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good skates I had originally gotten pink & white size 9 for my teenage daughter, but they were too tight(and too girly). She wears women 9 1/2. We got a men's 9. She wanted black. Loved the style and color of these. She says they are very comfortable. Rolling easy the first time she got on them. They look a lot like the cool skates they sell at the roller skating rinks-for a lot better price.
