Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great rifle for the price! I bought this rifle because I was afraid of damaging my grandfather's remington 700 ADL 30-06, but I wanted a rifle I could hand down to my kids. So after some research, I settled on the savage axis. I bought this rifle and scope combo chambered in .243, as well as 3 boxes of hornady american whitetail ammo in 100gr. I imagined the rifle would need to get on paper at 25 yards to start.. I hung my target.. then someone moved it. So starting a zero at 100 yards. Ok let's get it. I shot my first round, and bam.. it's on paper. So I used 3 round groupings to zero this rifle at 100 yards. It took 9 rounds total to zero. A very accurate rifle that anyone can shoot. I couldn't have bought a better rifle for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Didn't need to buy another scope I bought this for deer hunting and I'm glad I did. I bought it in .308 and it is a deer killer. I will 100% bring this out in the future. Usually when you buy a gun with a scope included it is bad but I was fairly impressed with this. I sighted it in in less than 10 shots. It never failed and it was about 20 degrees when I shot my deer with it so you don't need to worry about it getting cold enough to fail. In all, it is a great gun and I would recommend it to anybody.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great gun I received this gun as a gift and I have to say this is one of my favorite guns now. Mine is a .223 caliber and is a tack driver at 100 yards. I would not hesitate to go deer or hog hunting with the right ammo in this gun being the smaller caliber. My only complaint with the gun is The action is not super smooth, however it still shoots well and that's what matters. the best part about the gun is how light the gun is and still stay so accurate. I hope this review helps with your decision on this gun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value Bought this package in .308 right before deer season in NY. Trigger is way too heavy for my liking, but that can easily be fixed. The scope is pretty bad so I put on a Nikon Pro-Staff and its a great fit. I've shot it out to 200 yards and had a group under 1", so its very accurate for a low-priced rifle. The bolt is sticky at first but it breaks in after a while. Overall an accurate, lightweight rifle for a great price. Just do yourself a favor and upgrade the scope.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gun gun for the money I bought this gun before Thanksgiving. I was a little skeptical of the waythe stock felt but the stock held up to shooting in near zero temperatures and being fallen on top of on frozen found. The trigger is very heavy and may affect new shooter accuracy. I was able to get 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My best hunting friend I borrowed the exact same gun from a friend and after successfully hunting with it I just had to have one of my own. Not much fine tuning when it's shooting 3\4 inch groups at 100 yards right out of the box.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great quality and price I bought the Savage Axis in .243 at a DSG near me a four years ago as my first deer hunting rifle. I have to say that I really like this rifle and I've even bought a Savage 220 slug gun a couple years later at the same DSG because I enjoyed the quality and price of Savage so much!Pros:-Very accurate out of the box; this gun is a "tack driver" as many shooters would say-Scope and rings are included (these are good to start you out, but you may want to upgrade these as you become a better shooter)-Completely dependable rifle. I've never had it jam up or perform poorly on me-Even with the cheap scope/rings included, you can probably shoot 1''-2'' groupings at 100 yards with practice. Most people would buy a rifle and scope 3-4 times the price to get this kind of performance.-Shoots Barnes VOR-TX rifle ammunition really well! I like shooting all copper ammo whenever I can (safer than lead bullets for deer hunting), so I'm happy Barnes performed well for me. Cons:-Terrible trigger. It's very stiff, I think mine was at 7.5lbs. I ended up buying an aftermarket Timney adjustable trigger to replace the factory trigger and I now have my trigger pull down to 3.5lbs. My accuracy improved quite a bit once I replaced the trigger. I think Savage released a "Savage Axis II" model recently that comes standard with an upgraded Accu-Trigger. You may want to pay a little extra to get the Savage Axis II model so you can get a better trigger, or buy a Timney trigger. -No wood stock available (or at least there wasn't when I bought mine a few years ago). I ended up getting a stock in Real-Tree camo, but I prefer my hunting rifles to be wood... it just looks cooler in my opinion. In the four years I've owned the rifle I've also put a DNZ one piece scope mount and an upgraded Nikon Monarch scope on the rifle. At this point I've probably spent more money on upgrades than I did on the rifle in the first place, but I enjoy tinkering around with my Savage and improving accuracy, so I don't regret doing some upgrades over the years. Conclusion:Overall it's a fantastic rifle and I have zero regrets making this purchase. The upgraded Nikon scope and DNZ mount I put on mine are probably unnecessary for most beginner shooters, since the factory rings/scope included will get the job done, but the stiff trigger is what keeps me from giving this rifle 5 stars. I'm not sure why Savage sets the trigger at such a stiff setting and/or doesn't include the AccuTrigger in all of their models. I recommend this rifle as a first hunting rifle or for beginner shooters, but I would recommend at least upgrading the trigger if you're going to get a Savage Axis or pay a little extra to get a Savage Axis II that includes the AccuTrigger upgrade (which DSG can order for you if you ask).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great rifle but junk scope I put 20 rounds through the rifle and the cross hairs in the scope droped.
