[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This poncho packs to half the size and the weight is about 10% less than any of the inexpensive ponchos that I have used in the past. I'm more of a weekend warrior, so I tend to hit the trail when weather forecasts are fair, but I always want to bring some kind of rain protection. I like ponchos because they cover my pack, which also allows more airflow and ventilation. I don't know that I will ever use the tarp function, but I like that this poncho has eyelets for use as a temporary shelter.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this poncho because it was super small and light. It fit into the pocket of my pack's waistbelt. I intended to use it on the Camino de Santiago in Sep-Oct. During training, in July and August, it was great. It kept me comfortable in several light rainfalls. However, once in Spain, the conditions were different. On day 2, I faced torrential rain for hours on end, accompanied by high winds and temperatures in the 40s. Under such circumstances, the poncho was of little use. My arms were mostly exposed, as i used trekking poles, causing my sleeves to be soaked and allowing water to wick up into my torso. Similarly, my lower legs were exposed. Bottom line, my core body temperature dropped to 94.6 degrees. Stage 1 hypothermia. Two weeks later, I was hit with another storm. The wind came up very suddenly and I was unable to get the poncho situated over my pack until another hike came along to help me. After this, I dumped the poncho and bought a rain jacket and pants. Bottom line: it's great for warm weather. When the air temperature is less than about 75 degrees and the rain is accompanied by wind, it is not the preferred solution.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This thing is great! I no longer need to bring a heavy rain jacket jic for summer in the Sierras. I’ve only had to use it as a tarp for shade so far and it performed perfectly. I did wear it as a mosquito shield for a while too. No rain yet but I have no doubt this will keep me dry enough for the majority of showers we see here in California.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this poncho for a trip to Patagonia, Chile and was really disappointed with the performance. I used it during a light off and on drizzle, and by the end of the day my clothes and pack were soaked. I am not returning it because it will make a nice lightweight tarp when I am backpacking this summer, but beware of purchasing it expecting that it will keep you dry.... I have tons of Sea to Summit products and love all of them - this one just fell a bit short of expectations.
