Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth casting! This reel is equipped with 15 pound line excellent for the size catfish we catch in San Antonio. Casting is smooth and reel feels high quality, I'm super impressed and satisfied. Got this one on sale for ONLY $12.99 on clearance, GREAT BARGAIN!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great action I purchased this reel on Thursday and used it on Friday. It gave nice casts and smooth reels; even with a fish on the hook.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this reel, 2nd time purchase I bought this same reel 4 years ago, for the purpose of it's ease of operation. (I have nerve damage in my right hand, causing loss of use/numbness in my thumb)I loved the way it casts, and was very reliable. It does have some difficulty picking up line that is bigger than 10# strength. I usually use 6# or 8#, and it works great.I usually pond fish for bass, but I made the mistake of using it for some saltwater inter-coastal fishing. Oops, the inner workings are not suitable for saltwater, and the springs that work the line pickup posts rusted out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Only lasted about a year This reel is junk. I had the rod combo and the rod snapped of when i was tying on a new hook and the reel only lasted about a year before it got a birds nest which i had to just start cutting. Havnt even tryed putting more line on because the trigger dosent work!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good reel, except I find this to be a pretty good reel. I am for the most part pleased with mine. There is one exception. You can wear this reel out. The problem exists with all of the Shakespeare reels of similar design. Inside the reel is what is called the PUH assembly, it has the pins that pop out and catch hold of the line and wind it around the spool as the you crank and the assembly rotates. These pins are mounted in nylon and are pushed of the assembly housing when that nylon comes in contact with the center post. The nylon wears over time and eventually the pins stick out less and less and you will get to a point where they don't stick out far enough to pick up the line unless there is tension on it. I do a lot of creek fishing casting lures repeatedly and can wear one of these out in a single season. But if you are not constantly casting and retrieving like I am, such as in bait fishing, this is an excellent reel for the price.
