Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best on the planet This is my 3rd ugly stick. The rods I used to prefer now sale cheap imitations. How ever this is not the case with ugly stick. Won't buy anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Rod For Surf Fishing I have several reels for saltwater fishing, most are Penn Reels. I was using a PENN Battle II 8000 series reel and a 12' Shakespeare Ugly Stick Bigwater rod. I was surf fishing on Mustang Island, TX. I landed a 22lb Red fish that put up a heck of a fight. I was spooled with Power-Pro 65lb braided line. I had no problem getting this fish in, although it took me a while to get him in. On another occasion in Rockport, TX using the same set-up I landed a 18lb sea Trout. Now that's one fighting fish. I am hooked on Shakespeare's Ugly Stick Rods, whether they are freshwater or saltwater. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Shakespeare Ugly Stick Rods nor will you be disappointed!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Used for One Day until it separated Bought as gift for my husband, he loved it since his 8 ft one was old, he's an avid fisherman, My husband was fishing over the July 4th weekend and upon his casting, the piece separated and was thrown 10 feet into the water. Will be calling customer service today, since he secured it and had no problem all day fishing until this happened.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ugly Stik Bigwater I’ve owned Ugly Stick rods for over 27 years. I don’t treat them like gold I use them hard. As with any Ugly Stick, the sensitivity is great, I have them in all sizes from one piece Ultra Lights to 12 foot they are easy to handle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money on the 8 foot versions I have bought and tried all 3 of the 8 foot versions of the BWS series. The two "medium weight" should no be in the Big Water Series. They are way too light of an action for salt water. They would make a better Crappie pole . The heavy action would make a good pool cue. The 7 foot medium and the 9 foot medium heavy are great rods. If you have to have an 8' then look at another brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around rod This rod is a great all around rod. Can be used in either salt water or fresh water applications. From the beach to offshore, lakes, rivers, ponds you name it. Now your not gonna reel in a 15' mako shark or 300# blue fin tuna with this rod, but maybe you could with the right reel, but I wouldnt try it...lol. Most of your game fish whether it be salt or fresh you should have no problems with this rod. Smaller sharks under 6' shouldnt have a problem with the right reel and line set up. It's not pretty, hence the name ugly stick, but does that really matter? Only matters if it gets the job done, and trust me it does. Happy Fishin!!!!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This rod does not belong in the Big Water Series (BWS) . It is way too light action Not sure why Shakespeare includes this rod in the BWS line. Their 7' is a great rod, don't understand why they can't make the same thing in an 8' version. I have already returned it to the store.
