Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Military I am currently deployed in the US Army, serving in the mountain regions of Afghanistan. I had owned these socks prevoious to deployment, and wore them out because I loved them so much. Before I deployed I stocked up on a fresh inventory. So glad I did. I don't do cold, and if my feet are cold, I'm cold - and there's nothing I can do to get warm at that point. These socks are lifesavers. Feet stay warm, dry and comfortable, even in temps as low as -10. If only the rest of our standard issue gear were so good!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Socks Ever! The Trekking sock is the best sock I ever had. I am a hotshot firefighter and 16 hours days for two weeks straight are the norm for us. When I upgraded to the Trekking socks from a different store brand I could really feel the difference. Pretty much like trading in your Geo Metro for an Escalade. Really, Really comfortable. I wear them together with the Smartwool liner socks and I dont travel without this combo anymore. Highly reccomended

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They just work My feet have been cold before. It happens to all of us. Recently, however, I've moved into a region where the negatives outnumber the positives, and on a thermometer, that adds up to a cold winter: the coldest I've ever seen in fact. I remember thinking at one point that my toes may actually fall off. After some friends recommended I up my sock game, and recommended Smartwool in particular, I figured I'd give it a shot, and if the socks didn't work, happily return them, as I'm notoriously frugal. Fast forward a few weeks, and I can say these socks are everything I was looking for. Do my feet still get cold? Of course they do. When it's -12 out, nothing short of magic can really keep you toasty. But dancing on the edge of frostbite does a real number on your toes, and I'm happy to say it's no longer part of my routine. Few things are as satisfying as knowing your money was spent exactly as intended and in the best way possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Substitute I am a Wildland firefighter and I am in my boots all day, everyday. When I started my job I purchased a pair of high quality handmade boots. If your familiar with some of the companies then you know the quality/price. Well I was wearing regular cotton socks and my new boots where showing signs of the moisture retention. My wife bought me a pair of the Smartwool socks for Easter and I have never been happier. A quality sock for a quality boot! These socks never make my feet stink or prune even after being on the fire line for hours and hours. I expected them to cause my feet to get hot, but rather found it to be just the opposite. They breath very well. On top of all of that they are extending the life of my boots. Most work boots(or shoes in general) have a stench to them on the inside. Not mine, they still have that fresh clean leather scent from day one. The verdict: buy them...lots of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for old feet Bought these to replace Thorlos for daily wear. I need a heavily padded sock due to some foot problems related to too many birthdays. These give me the cushioning I need and they are not too hot hiking in the Texas summer. I'm a serious foot sweater and these socks wick/evaporate the dampness well. Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best hiking socks These are the only hiking socks i will use and I do lots of hiking with and without a fully loaded pack. I also use them in my cross country ski boots and in my winter boots for snowshoeing. I literally own about 10 pairs and I have some that are over 20 years old. The only negative thing about them is that if you wash them a lot they will eventually get less soft and more "condensed" as the wool kind of gets a felted feel to it. But you have to wash them a lot for them to get to that I said some of mine are over 20 years old...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best hiking sock I have ever worn! I am a search and rescue officer in the Civil Air Patrol, leading ground search teams and these are now the only socks I wear for missions now. I wear them year round, they keep my feet dry in the summer and warm in the winter. I recommend them to all my team members.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Extreme comfort if you have plenty of room These socks are what I've come to expect from Smartwool, very well made and they really help reduce the friction on ruck marches. This particular model is incredibly thick though and that can be a problem if you don't have extra space in your boot or shoe. The extra thickness can create a feeling of your toes being crushed so make sure you have plenty of wiggle room before considering this model.
