Rated 5 out of 5 by from great stone Great stone ... BUT ... DON'T use without honing oil, which is nit sold at Dicks sporting goods ..Using the stone without honing oil causes the pores to fill destroying the stone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smith's Arkansas Stone I bought this stone to replace an 8in stone that went missing. I would have preferred the larger stone but this is what was available. The quality of these stones is excellent. I have used Smith's stones for years to put the final polish on chisels, plane irons, and knives. I keep it on my desk so I can keep the edge on my Buck 110, also an American made product, sharp. If I could find a hard Arkansas I would buy it also.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product work as expected I purchased this product about 2 weeks ago so I could sharpen some of my survival and non cooking knifes. The stone sharpened my knifes as I expected although it took a little time to get the sharpening angle correct to get a good edge. I lubricated the stone with simple tap water and it worked fine. May try a light oil next time to see if there is any difference. All in all a good sharpening stone for the cost.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Sharper Edge I have used this stone to hone my pocket and kitchen knives. The edge is dull when I start out but when I'm done they have the ability to cut bone. At least when I am using them. The fact the stone is in a case doesn't bother me at all. In fact it is a plus for me because I tend to come too close to cutting myself sometimes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very satisfied Before I even got the product home, the adhesive used to glue the stone to the base had already broken free from the stone. However, I didn't mind in the least because of the way the base is designed. The base is recessed, allowing the stone to rest slightly inside of the base. This allows water to be poured into the base to allow the stone to soak up the water for 15 minutes before working with it. When I'm ready to use it, I simply turn the stone over, pour a little more water in the base, and while I'm using it the other side is absorbing more water. After a few minutes working with it, I simply turn the stone over again and continue. This way the stone retains better moisture to do the work it needs to do. After I'm done sharpening a few knives with this stone, I finish up to a razor sharpness with a fine ceramic stone.Additionally, the base also does an adequate job of holding the stone steady on a table, provided the rubber feet remain dry and you don't apply too much pressure.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor quality The stone detached from the plastic base within 1 minute of use. It looked like they used 3 drops of hot melt glue to fasten the stone to the base.Smith used to make good products [*]. But the stone itself is of good quality and I would rather have the stone removeable so it's good it came apart lol...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great product this product is very easy to use. sharpens blades very well. you need a rough surface to use this product because it does slide around a bit. it does not have any form of suction to hold it still. other than that it really does a great job.
