Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage I bought this kit and the first thing I noticed was how cheap everything felt. The guid rods will screw into the sharpening stones at random angles and require almost no effort to bend the rod inside the sone once it's snug. The stones themselves are attached to the plastic with a small strip of glue and by the third time I used it the glue had failed on all of them. For $50 I expected a much better product. I've owed 1 other Smith product and it was garbage as well so I guess I'm not surprised. I won't be wasting my money on this cheap, low quality brand ever again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this I bought this two months ago and the threads or already stripped. This being the one that replaced the first one I bought that was broken in the package. I like Smiths sharpening stones, it's the threads that don't match the screw and the weak glue they use to stick these together. FAIL!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it The setscrew on the mechanical piece that holds the arms open is soft plastic mounted to a screw in a very shoddy overmolding process. Anybody with man hands will break it. This is getting returned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Smith's Sharpening System works fantastic. Mine is not flimsy and barely glued together as other reviews here have stated. The version I picked up has 4 angles, 20, 25, 30, and 35. The clamp is made from a sturdy aluminum and the folding wings are a durable plastic. All the stones are effectively abrasive and stepping through the lineup gives very satisfactory edges on my kitchen knives. Very easy to use and there are plenty of free "How to" videos available online if you are unsure. Could it be stronger and more durable? Sure, it could be made of titanium and tool-steel, but not for fifty bucks. I'm not disappointed in the least with this purchase, it's great. I have been disappointed in every other knife sharpener I've gotten up until now, which included cheap whetstones, sharpening rods, and sharpening devices.
