Steel stays sharp and the spring flicks the blade out with authority. But I received this to replace my Flash II, which had lost a pivot screw. Unfortunately, the Flash AT is twice as heavy and slightly larger. The Flash II blade and grip was every bit as good (I liked the scales better than these lines, actually) but it was comfortable for pocket carry in dress pants because it was so light. The Flash AT also benefits from the reversible deep carry clip which is excellent, but it's just so heavy. I know this sounds like a review of the Flash II, but I want buyers to be aware that if you're looking to replace your Flash II, this won't suffice for you. It is, however, an excellent full-duty knife for law enforcement and SOG truly does have the best customer service and make a superior product in terms of bang for your buck. Their designers always get things about 98% right - lines on the AT that provide no grip compared to scales - but the rest of the knife is great, for example. It is still a superior knife to the Benchmade and Microtech for which you will spend a lot more money but only get 0.5% better performance (if the steel happens to be better). Still and all, for jeans carry or duty carry, the Flash AT is great (though no window breaker that you'd probably want for emergency services carry). The price point is very reasonable.
