Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable, works whether you like it or not ;p I bought this knife at a dicks sporting goods last winter, and it came nice and sharp out of the box. It's point is strong but very scary, even when dull the tip is very nasty, I had stabbed myself in the thumb by accident and it almost when all the way through, lost my fingerprint for a couple months. What Hollywood doesn't know is they grow back! I often use pocket knives as a coat hanger in the woods when I'm working. The tip makes it stick in the tree like it's a natural banch. This is my edc blade, and it stands up to everything I throw at it. The only thing I can say is bad is that the strap cutter doesn't work well as it could

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some answers for this great knife Actually, as far as the safety is concerned, it can be clicked off with a fingernail with a little practice as part of the opening procedure. The clip serves as a guide to find finger position and the midldle finger just follows the groove to open the blade almost as quick as opening the blade with safety already off. Closing the blade is also a one-handed operation with a little practice, either rt or lft-handed. SOG never tells you how to switch the clip to the other side, just says it's "easy". But it only ivolves usind an allen wrench on one screw to switch it over for lefties.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Knife for the money I did a lot of research on many types of pocket knifes and many types of steels used in a blade. This one uses Japanese made AUS 8 steel, which is mid grade but very sharp and tough. Handle feels good and is surprisently light for it's tough exterior look. Handle also includes seat belt cutter which makes this knife popular with law enforsment. However, this feature can be used to cut wires and other thin items. Assisted opening system is smooth and simple, I like that there are two locking mechanisms, it feels safer in you pocket, but you can keep the second one unlocked when using the knife often. Can not find a better knife for this price, and Dick's sells it for lowest price...I've looked around. Good Luck

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be improved I've had this knife over a year and it has its positives and negatives. When compared to another knife I have (Benchmade) it wiggles a bit when opened. This needs improvement to make it more stable when opened. I was hoping I could cut seat belts with the groove but it doesn't do that very well. OK for paracord of twine though. And I find the Tanto blade harder to sharpen than a standard clip point or drop point, because of the angle that the blade takes. That is a personal issue that others may not have. It opens great with the assist, but I don't care for the location of the lock. The grip on the handle is good and overall it is a good knife. But in the future I think I'll stick with clip point blades over the Tanto style.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tactical knife! I bought this knife about a year ago and it is still holding up great and is still one of my favorite knives. It feels great in the hand and opens fast and smooth every time. Perfect knife for self defense, cutting sealtbelt or small rope and for just everyday carry. I love how you can lock the knife so it will not open without you putting the safety off and it is lightweight. All around great knife! Just be careful with the law because in Michigan they say you can only have a blade of 3 inches but I have heard that you can carry larger blades. This knife is definitely worth the price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid knife I have owned this knife for almost five years and have used it a lot. EDC is not legal here in Norway but, as I use it for work, I do carry it most days. Pros: The action is quick and it is easy to deploy. The safety is a nice feature. This knife has been through some serious work in my hands but remains solid. The handle is easy to maintain grip on in the cold. Life: The blade is very sharp when new but, after cutting Kevlar-based line, I have struggled to keep it as sharp as it was when I got it. Even so, performance after the abuse I have put it through is admirable. Cons: The cut-out in the handle for strap and line cutting is tantamount to useless. I would deploy the blade and take my chances in an emergency situation as the geometry of the "belt cutter" is pretty whack. The blade just does not come up far enough to do much (on the tanto, at least) to justify the feature. There are other tools for that job that work way, way better (i.e., a dedicated strap/rope cutter). Still, this knife rocks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My EDC Knife for the past 5 years I really like this Trident Black Tanto, it my Every Day Carry (EDC) blade. I own a lot of knives and some much, much higher in cost, but the Trident has all the valued characteristics I look for. A great strong quantity blade, Assisted opening, lightweight sure grip handle and very deep belt clip (more covert) with a "Point Up Orientation " which is opposite placement from the blade pivot point so when deploying the blade opens pointing out away from the wrest and ready to use without the need to rotate the knife. Great blade!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable Adventure/Everyday carry knife I purchased this knife 4 years ago, and over that time it has done nearly everything possible. From backpacking in the New Mexico Sangre de Cristo Mountains, canoeing in the Boundary Waters, whitewater rafting on the New River, mountain biking, kayaking, being used as a self-defense weapon, you name it, this knife has been absolutely excellent. It can handle most heavy work the backcountry requires such as splitting small firewood, along with training to fight by stabbing or slashing a heavy bag. In addition, it performs more delicate operations like acting as a first aid scalpel for blisters and splinters, or just cutting open a letter. This knife can do it all. I highly recommend this knife for someone whom craves adventure and knows how to care for a good blade.
