Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beast Battle The Beast arrived with a leak in the base. We bought some gel that absorbs the water and forms a "glob" that should form around the water and prevent leaking. That held for one day. Spalding did ship a new base and that arrived last week. We have not had the time or the opportunity to take the Beast apart and install the new base. All in all, the product was difficult to assemble. Now that we have a new base, we will have to take the Beast apart and put it together again. This time it should go a bit quicker. Once we are able to use the product it looks as though it will be good. Disappointing that it was a Christmas present and it is now mid-January and still cannot use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Great system. Play off the backboard is great. This was our number 1 priority and it exceeds our expectations. Moving the system is very easy. My son can place this anywhere he likes with ease. After we read the reviews, I was worried about assembly. I mostly assembled by myself, but my 14 year old son assisted when 2 people were needed. Finished in about 4 hours. I have no idea why this would take much longer. Putting the two post together was not that difficult as some have explained. Also, it is key to have extra long extensions for socket wrenches. If I had not had these some of the bolts would have been hard to reach

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Stability for a Portable After having difficulty, I called Spalding for advice on how to fully seat the steel posts together. I learned that the assemblers at Spalding needed to fit the posts together, then, using a ladder, drop straight down onto cardboard from a height of 3 to 4 feet! I did so from the bed of a pick-up truck and was completely successful after two drops. Some grease/oil might help too. Also, Spalding had to send me a new bottom base because it leaked in two places. However, having had this difficulty, this is still the best portable basket for residential use that I have ever played on and so far, I would buy this one again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected, and I was hoping for the best! I have played basketball for over 50 years, taught and coached as a profession. I was so particular about the type of hoop I wanted on my driveway twenty years ago that I actually had it built from wood to duplicate playground and summer camp hoops I treasured. I was especially concerned when replacing my driveway basket with a portable hoop that it would turn out to be flimsy with a lot of reverberation and a clanky rim. The Beast turns out to be everything I wanted and more. It is incredibly sturdy with a professional appearance, and rivals any basket in a high school or college gymnasium (and I've played in both). It took my wife and I most of a day to install but we actually had fun doing so. The materials out of which it is made are of the highest quality and feel and look like they will last forever.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warranty Claim - Backboard Shattered After carefully following all assembly instructions, the backboard shattered while attaching the rim. Warranty Claim has just been filed with Spalding. Awaiting resolution.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Beast Delivers After reading several online customer reviews I decided to go with this hoop. I am glad that I listened to the warnings about assembly and paid someone to do it for me...well worth the money to avoid that headache. As for the product, we've shot around on it a few times. The backboard looks great and the hoop feels more sturdy than most portable models I've played on. My only complaint is that bounces on the front of the rim seem a little too friendly. The ball tends to die there. Not sure if it's a problem with the product or was something the people in assembly forgot to tighten. I'm guessing its product related. Just a small gripe though:Overall, it's an awesome addition to our driveway!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Back Board shattered This Beast is a Wimp. I purchased 2 of these Beasts for school use. The systems were not used frequently. I witnessed the backboard shatter when a child took a shot with the ball. The next day the second board shattered. These systems were only a little over 2 years old. Spalding denied the warranty claim because it was used at a school. Sharp broken glass particles were scattered on the court. There is no unbreakable backboard replacement option. For $1000.00 each I expected these to be built to last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just a nice piece of equipment I've had the Beast now for 2 months now. All I can say is it is really nice, well made, and easy to operate. Took my Brother and me 3 hours to put it together. Here's the deal, follow the instructions, don't over tighten bolts/screws that are going to need to move or be near/on glass. It seems simple in concept, but something we sometimes overlook. I bought the unit in the store, of course they don't stock these, so the shipping is quite expensive, (over $200#, but that's just the way it is. I used a 20% off coupon so that more or less covered the shipping. It comes scheduled delivery via LTL carrier on two pallets. The base is pre-assembled from factory, so that saves a little time. Take your time, and follow instructions, lay everything out, and get to work. If you know what you’re doing, then you could probably have this assembled in 2 hours or so. My Brother and I ate some pizza, listened to some music, and had several diversions, so we took our time. The build quality of the goal is excellent, everything is powder coated, and engineered for the long-haul. The backboard is solid, and has a much different feel #similar to a pro goal) than the old flimsy portable goals everyone is use to. This is pro-grade. I've attached a just put together photo and then on from May 22. The little NBA sticker is losing its color, but the Texas sun will pretty much fry anything have many days in the direct sun. Everyone deserves this goal, it's portable, solid, and just fun to play on. Adjustable goal height, so even I can dunk.
