Open Lid Causes Hot Spills

I was under the impression the lid to the mug would be a slider or more secure when it comes to the liquid .. clearly this would be used for either hot or cold drinks and the lid is open with no option or ability to close it .. it’s basically an open lid with no type of cover .. I bought this gift for my hunny who drives around a lot and is wheelchair bound .. what an inconvenience for him in case he happens to hit holes or bumps in the road only for the hot liquid to spill everywhere . Very disappointing
