Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bag for carying alot! I use this bag for school primarily, or on weekend trips. I am a law student and carry many heavy books on a daily basis along with a laptop. This bag is great for that! The back is very well supported and padded- similar to the backpack I use for rustic camping. If you're not used to a structured and well supported back, with the padding and venting, I can see where this would be weird at first but it really is better for your back in the long run and helps to better distribute the weight you are carrying. I also like the design of the shoulder straps and pads of this bag. They curve inward and I find that they fit my shoulders better. I find that on gender-neutral bags the straps are sometimes wider set, which results in the straps sliding off of one shoulder or the other. I have not found that to be the case with this bag. I chose the heathered grey an magenta bag and while the grey is spot on to the picture, the magenta is a little darker and not a "pink" as the picture on the website. It's still a pretty color and looks great so I wasn't bothered, but if someone was very set on getting a brighter magenta, you might want to see if there is a store by you to view the colors first. Overall, it's a great bag and I find that my shoulders and back are not as sore at the end of a long week compared to your regualr school bag without the structured support of this bag.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Maybe buy again The straps wore out very fast as well as the water bottle side pouches so bad quality all in all.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great except for breaking suspended straps!! I got this backpack in the middle of the '16-'17 school year after my old backpack broke. I ordered this one and it was great for a while but around October the straps began to slowly rip. Granted I do carry a heavy load each day but not so heavy that this backpack should have worn out so quickly. Now, one of the straps is hanging by three threads and I am hoping it can survive the rest of the year! Besides the straps, the rest of the backpack is in pretty much perfect condition aside from several tears in the side pouches. Because of the overall quality, I will most likely repurchase a North Face backpack for next year, but this time without the suspended straps!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Quality I wish I could give this review a 0/5. Previously I had a North Face Borealis backpack for 7 years. The padding wore down but after 7 years it was justifiable to buy a new one. Last year I bought a new one an 3 months in I had to sent it in because the strap had broke off. After I sent it in I thought it was fixed or so I thought. So now a year after not only is the strap ripping that I sent in to get fixed but the stitching of the backpack is coming undone and the backpack is starting to tear apart. I did not pay this much money to have my backpack fall apart so many times. I tried to talk to customer service about replacing the backpack and they made it clear that I had to send it in and they would decide if it should be replaced or simply fixed. Clearly it should not be just fixed if this is the second time in two years. Also about myself I am a college student that uses this backpack for school and work. Most days I go straight from class to work. That being said as a college student working a low paying job I bought this backpack to last not to send in every few months.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great, but could be better I have used this backpack for four years of school, and many flights. This backpack is good for carrying smaller loads, but I cannot fit more than two binders in it. The inside pockets have all ripped, but they were very nice while they lasted. The backpack is very comfortable to wear, and I really like the design. I will be getting another north face backpack, but it will be a larger one. I reccommend it for a carry on or a commuting bag, but it can be a bit small for students.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Terrible redesign. Unfortunately, I have the an older Borealis, which I've had for about 15 years. It's a hiking daypack, with accommodations for a hydration bladder, a thick, useful waist belt that could stow away in the bag, and comfortable shoulder straps. It has been my everything bag -- carry on for flights, commuting on my bike, hiking excursions, carrying camera gear, overnight bag for travel. I still have itand use it on occasion, but it's getting long in the tooth, so I checked out the new Borealis line as a replacement. The new Borealis is now a bookbag. There is no compatibility with hydration systems. The waist band is thin and useless. The shoulder straps are thick, but the padded section is too short and too rigid. All of the outdoor utility is completely gone. I ended up getting the Angstrom 28, which I've been very happy with, as it has all the features of my old Borealis and a few extras.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Borealis: Lots to like, but not perfect There's lots to like about the Borealis backpack, as others have said, so I won't repeat all the positives here. But, there's a few things I don't care for. The stiff back piece is also quite bendy, so if the pack is not full and sitting vertically on your lap (as when riding the city bus), the back bends like a banana, not to mention the bottom edge of the back board digging into my legs. It's the same when standing the pack up on the floor or somewhere, it just bends. Another thing, I don't use the waist straps so I removed them, but then I've got these two stupid-looking buckles (or whatever they're called where the straps attach) still hanging at the corners there. Who uses waist straps anyway? I wish it didn't have them at all, or they could be completely removed. Finally, I find the pack overall is about 1 inch too tall. It wouldn't matter except that stiff back piece tends to bump and hook into the belt I'm wearing on my pants, which is quite annoying, and I don't understand why it needs to be quite so tall. Apart from these complaints, the pack is great In every other way I can think of, durable, stylish, convenient, etc.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from THIS PRODUCT IS UNREALIABLE this product worked well 50% of the time, but when i needed to put more binders in or when things got heavy, it did not hold. The backpack strap broke after only 8 months of use. It was not roomy and is defiantly not durable. Luckily I was in school when this happened but if i was mountain climbing, my supplies would have dropped down the mountain and i would die of starvation.
